I just picked up a Vortex 1-4 and I'm now looking for a mount to use. I was going to with the Vortex branded mount but I have a gift card for an LGS I can use. Apart from a ($130!!) Burris PEPR they have, the only half decent thing they have is a Midwest Industries mount like this:

I had never seen one before so I did some searching on reviews and there doesn't seem to be much. Anyone use one here?

In the $100 price range, is there something else I am missing? I am keeping an eye on the EE.

Thanks.

I'm surprised I didn't get any replies on this. Anyway, I picked up the MI mount and got the Vortex on. Haven't had a chance to shoot with it yet but the mount seems solid enough. Here's a couple of pics:

Buy purchasing an untested product, you've inadvertently made yourself the unofficially guinnea pig for the rest of the group. Now you'll need to either run it through a week long carbine course, train with it extensively, take it on a deployment, or put several thousands of rounds through it and report back with your findings.

No classes in my near future but it gets used and I don't baby my gear so it will get banged around a fair bit. I am just about to get into reloading in the coming month so my round count will be going up. I'll definitely report back :)

For anyone interested, I paid $130 including tax at my LGS but I have seen them online around $105. Assuming all goes well I think this mount is a nice alternative to a PEPR and the like while not spending Larue etc kind of money. We will see.

it looks reasonable quality at a good price. some will bemoan the lack of QD but I couldn't care. I'd just keep a small wrench in my admin pouch or stowed somewhere on the gun. I got a combination wrench with a benchgrinder that is just a flat piece of steel with the appropriate size hole punched out of it. something like this would work well in this app...

OP, it's been a couple months since you purchased this mount. What are your thoughts on it (assuming you've put a decent amount of rounds through your rifle since buying)? Would you recommend it as a good budget alternative or would you say it would be better to just save up for a proven more expensive mount?

I recently picked up a Leupold Mark AR 1.5 -4 scope and want to get it mounted. So I have the option to pick this mount up right away or wait and save for something a bit more expensive.

I've had no issues at all with this mount although it's only seen around 400 rounds. It's been on a couple of different uppers and has been very solid. I can't directly compare it to other more expensive mounts like Larue etc as I haven't had much experience with them but the MI has done its job so far. For someone who has a tighter budget, I think this mount is a great option without going too cheap where quality might start to suffer.
