Last week my son David (9) got his first buck.
He had shot his first doe earlier in the season.

He is running my 6.8 with a Steiner 1-5 and handloaded Barnes 95 TTSX

Doe was shot at 140 yards in the neck and went straight down!

The buck was 170 yards with a high shoulder shot, again, straight down!

The buck was a 7 point cull for the property but a trophy for him ( and me ! )

Congrats to your son on taking his first backstrap, er...I mean, jerky! Or is it sausage?

Did your son help you gut, skin and butcher it?

What do you do with the meat?

I ask because here in Texas it seems most have their kill made into deer sausage, or chile meat, while maybe only saving the back straps to eat as is.

And, Congratulations to your boy and yourself!
