View Full Version : What do you store your ammo in?

I've been looking for a cheap tool box or tackle box to store ammo in, but things I've found are either not cheap IMO or they are too small.
I will be storing my ammo in the boxes not loose so ammo cans are no good for me. I usually have around 1,000 round of .40 (in 10 boxes of 100) & now I have a few hundred rounds of .22 to add to that & some boxes of .223 & SG shells as soon as I order those guns.
I prefer whatever I use to have a provision for a pad lock as well.
I use standard USGI ammo cans. You can buy them used at the local Army & Navy store for $5. My ammo is in the safe, so I don't worry about a lockable container.
ammo cans here too.
cheap, strong, water tight, stackable, standardized sizes.

Same here. Local gun show a guy had them for $4 a can with all new seals. I dont know sizes or anything but they were good size. I bought three. Cheapest and best way to go.
A .50 Cal ammo can is about the most kick-ass item one can buy for $5 these days.....

I use a 50 cal can, label the contents on a piece of an index card, and tape the card to the flat latch on the front, using clear packing tape. Works great, and the cans stack well.
I started using what the dealers are calling a SAW can, larger than a .50 can. I can put an entire case of Prvi m193 in it without opeining the original straped cardboard box.
I use various ammo cans that I picked up when I worked at an army surplus store. I just leave the ammo in the cases it comes in until I break open the case, and then loose rounds go in ammo cans with a masking-tape label on it.
I've seen a lot of guys use something similar to this (http://www.thegunsource.com/store/item/52261_Reloading_Equipment_MTM_Molded_Products_MTM_SDB1ATV09_DRY_BOX_W_M.aspx) in various shapes, sizes, and colors. Not exactly "cheap" but should last for a great long while and is reusable.
I have a few GI 50 cal ammo cans, but most of my stuff is in a variety of plastic "dry boxes." They're lighter, adequately moisture-resistant, and easy to stack (as long as they are the same brand).

milspec .50 cal. ammo cans for me too.., most of mine, about 30 were FREE !! i stop reloading when i have one is filled.., bulk.., with three others always full in reserve
I'm just running the 7.62 cans.
50's are great. They have great capacity, and work well for storage. But if you want a can for taking to the range or for "grab and go" a loaded down 50 can is too heavy.
most of the time in .30 cans and a air tight 20mm can i got but if goin to the range I have a 3 day ACU backpack I shove my ammo , drinks, targets munchies and TP don't forget the TP and I also wear a LBV with buttpack and mags in pouches. My LBV is always loaded and ready to go..........just incase the zombies attack:cool:
50 cal ammo can here as well.

+1 on ammo cans, if you need more space, buy more cans. Been investigating a cheap way to MIG a padlock end on them, will post if I figure it out.
Ammo cans, regular ol' GI ammo cans

I was going to write the same thing.
I also label them by caliber and stack them accordingly. I use one of those label makers and attach with clear shipping tape.
