I have a eotech 512 coming. Picked it up for 290 after rebates, coupon codes etc. Did I get a good deal?

Second, I am worried it won't fit on my mp15 sport with the mbus. Will I need to get a forearm rail? Also what riser will I need to co witness?

The top one is a 512. Don't have this set up anymore. I had to take the eotech off to get the top handguard section off. I really didn't need to take it off much. MI buis is in the picture. This positioning on the rails fit good enough to get my thumb in to turn it on and off. I could had slid the eotech back one more notch and the top handguard would come off but the access to the buttons was close. Just bolting the 512 on is absolute cowitness. David

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing the mbus that came with the sport is similar in size to the one in your picture, so it should fit. If I ever have to remove it, will it still be zeroed in after reattaching it(assuming its in the same position)?

I think I'd like to have the eotech raised to have the iron sights be in the bottom 1/3...what riser would do this?

YHM makes a lower 1/3 co witness riser that is inexpensive. (35-45 depending on where you look. You can also get a larue or ADM for $85-110 or a rock river dominator riser (rear sight built in). If you already have BUIS the YHM is a good place to start.

Will a 1/2" riser work? Or do I need 1/3"?

An Eotech will have an absolute cowitness without any additional riser. If you attach your 512 to either a Larue or American Defense Manufacturing mount then the center dot will be in the lower third cowitness position and you can have it set up as a QD system.

Each of these can be found on eBay for cheaper. I've found the ADM for $89, RRA for $70-110 and the Larue for $110. Also keep an eye on the EE.

It's not inches. It refers to where the iron sights are when looking through the optic, ie in the lower 1/3 of the glass.

Not sure if your rebates/discounts were 512 specific but I personally would've opted for an EXPS2-0 instead. It uses a transverse CR123 & incorporates a QD, 7mm riser for lower 1/3. More durable, more compact and you don't have to mess with an aftermarket riser. I know, water over the dam...

It was for quite a few models.. I saw the 517 had the riserbuilt in it too for only like40 more...but not until after I ordered it.

I guess I'll try to find the Yankee hill riser used somewhere..

To answer your first question, $290 was a good deal. Now if you mount it the way it comes you will have an absolute co-witness, meaning if you aim your iron sights they will be squarely in the middle of your Eotech. The lower 1/3 co-witness puts your iron sights in the lower 1/3 of the Eotech glass. Since this is evidently your first Eotech I might suggest mounting it the way it came and trying it out before investing in a riser. The reticle is not fixed in the glass so, many people find it easy to either aim over, or ignore the front sight. If this works for you, you just saved $40-$120. If you end up not liking it, you can always buy a riser and you're no worse than if you bought it before trying it.

Aim over, as in move the dot above the irn sights?

When you zero the Eotech and zero your iron sights, if you line up your irons with the Eotech on, the 1 MOA center dot will generally end up on the tip of your front sight. If you then lift your head slightly, so that you're no longer looking through the iron sights, your Eotech reticle will appear in the upper portion of the glass, above your iron sights.
