Pretty interesting. I'm excited to see if it works as well as it's advertised, also to see how it's priced. That could be scary.

Yes, price is the trick here.

If you told me last week SIG was going to make a rifle with swappable lowers and barrels for multi-cal functionality and an adjustable gas system, I would say, "Great... I hope they don't **** it up."

...after watching that clown ass video, I am nearly certain that they will **** it up.

At least by inventing a 1913 attach folding stock they should be good for some comedy down the road when 3rd party manufacturers try to integrate it into other ridiculous designs.

Could be interesting. At least they didn't go full retard in the MSRP...

As a lefty, I'm waiting for the next Masada. This comes close, but the SCAR looks better & is more than likely lighter. However I want a non-reciprocating charging mechanism like the ACR & a barrel swapping capability that uses standard AR barrels. If Remington lightened the ACR, that would be my choice. FN needs to give the boot to the stock of the SCAR. This rifle just doesn't look like a Sig. Sig's are sexy, this doesn't.

This will be a total goat F&$k just like everything Sig Exeter has done with the 55x design in the recent past.

I wonder if the MSRP is indicative of cost/quality cutting measures. Most of the "new", non-AR, military grade rifles seem to be around $2k MSRP. Tavor, AUG, SCAR, etc.

I would buy one of these if Sig wasn't absolute crap in the US. If only unicorns were real too.

Or is $2k the accepted price point rather than actual? Idk.

Again we'll see when it comes out.

Why a separate bolt for the 300 blackout round? Doesn't the 300 use the same bolt as 5.56?

the SIG556xi can be changed to any of three calibers, 5.56x45mm NATO, 300 Blackout, and 7.62x39mm NATO.

You sure you don't want 7.62x39mm... NATO???

More proof of their complete lack of attention to detail.

I absolutely guarantee you they will **** this up.

This really was done sloppily.

a) Separate bolts for .300 BLK & 5.56 NATO?
b) Since when is there such a thing as STANAG 7.62x39mm magazines?
c) M1913 Mount Folding Stock - What The ****?????? Will this be compatible with their soon-to-be-released 1913 Picatinny rail-mounted cheek riser? Holy ****.
d) At around 1:54 the parts are laid out on screen, and the AK and AR-15/M16 mags/labels are all crossed up.

Additionally:
Who, upon coming under fire, calmly walks forward upright, competition-style heel-toe, firing like it's a mother****ing relaxed Sunday range trip?

Maybe I'm nit-picking, but this vid was just weird.

EDIT: No more bad words allowed, apparently. My bad.

Fool me once, shame on me....etc.

They really better knock this OUT OF THE PARK. I am with JoshNC though, almost certainly a POJ.

As for the video, it looks like a winter outing of the Wyoming Airsoft Club.

Wow... first SIG got a shorty stock BATFE approved as some kind of stampless SBR workaround and now they went and got those junky 7.62 boomerang mags approved under STANAG 4179!

Too bad they couldn't get that just-add-pipe-and-stamp fixed suppressor through!

So the upper receiver is the serialized part that requires an FFL transfer? I'm not sure what I think about that.

Sig hit a home run with the M-400, BUT its a simple rifle. I love mine and most people that own one love them.BUT why wont they stop while there ahead? WHY does Sig keep trying to improve the mouse trap?I dont get it at all were their trying to go as a company?
My m-400 shoots like butter its just so smooth that even my wife loves it so much she wants an M4,but shes gona get a colt, bcm or one of the guns IG builds,I spent extra money on the sig putting an h-buffer, springco springs etc. to get it were its at and love it. And i dont mind spending extra getting what i want..SIG just stop for Fsaks and put h-buffers etc in your rifles and just build 3 guns and build them well! you dont have to put out something new every day!!!! damnit it just stop already!!!

Eh if I can adjust barrel/caliber conversions without a S/N FFL part from Sigs perspective it makes customers more likely to order - for me I'm kind of meh. Means I don't have to have a complete upper built for a caliber or barrel length change.

This is what makes the most since to me. It allows you to run the correct mag well for the caliber chosen (5.56/300 or x39/ the magical x39 nato) . You don't need special/one company mags. One transfer through FFL, the rest through UPS.

That is how the Swiss 55x and US 556 series have always been. Given that the bolt group, barrel, gas system, and return spring are in the upper, it actually makes the most sense that it is the serialized part.

Same with the FNC and SCAR. The FNC was initially made with the upper serialized, then it was changed that the lower was serialized, and finally the upper was formally classified again as the serialized controlled part. There is a precedent for this.

I would be very hesitant on purchasing anything out of Exeter after seeing all of the problems with the 556 series, not to mention their spin control when problems are brought to their attention. I'll stick with the genuine Swiss SAN weapons, like the little 553 pistol that M+M brought in recently.

I'd be interested to see how the AK version pans out. Wanted the second gen 556R but this seems to replace that.

After this rifle hits the market, I predict that opinions of Sig-USA will be equal to or greater than they are right now.:D

Now where is that Sig556 SBR that I ordered October 2012?

Sig USA has recently hired; some smart guys with operational experience to guide developments... and acquired some well recognized talent in the engineering dept.

This could be interesting.

Well that is interesting news. I truly hope they can turn Sig around and make the 556xi, mpx, etc viable and quality products. Thank you for posting this.
