View Full Version : Can odorless mineral spirits harm flashlight lenses?
I generally use odorless mineral spirits for carbon removal, and I'm wondering if using this method to clean the body of a weapon-mounted light could potentially damage the lens.
Not sure but I use a pencil eraser on the lenses with great success in removing carbon build up.

I have used that and the toothpaste method with success.
However, I am interested in removing carbon from the body of the light.

I use a bunch of this stuff for cleaning parts, and havent seen it be rough on plastics built for cars but i wouldnt use it on clear plastics...seems like it would make it milky after a while.I learned the hard way what deep woods off will do to the lens of a maglight...

I'm still in the dab of toothpaste on a Q tip corner for cleaning off the carbon on a lens. Just works.
I rub some Chapstick on the lens from time to time after cleaning. Carbon and soot that accumulates afterward just wipes right off.
