Is this the future of lightweight lower receivers???? I about spit my drink when I saw this pic trying not to laugh. Not sure if the owner even knows the consequences of having such a lower in regards to reliability, or this is just a show piece.

Your Thoughts???

From the 50 oz pistol days?

That will fail badly. There are companies that make billet lowers from a lighter aluminum-magnesium alloy that are probably a better option.

I was dumbfounded when I saw this. That lower will be very susceptible to dirt and debris. Not to mention it has been weakened significantly just to reduce weight.

Dumb idea...

I think there is a high probability that this is more like a demo cutaway than a real functioning lower to be used on a functional weapon.

I seen a skeleton like this but it was made out of titanium and it was not to that extent

Who are these companies?? MAG Tactical is the only one I find and it doesn't get very good reviews. GH

This. There is no way that thing will do live fire.

Or maybe they needed to make a serial number go away?

Check out Spike's Tactical Gen II Billet lower. The stripped lower will be just under 248 grams. A stripped conventional forged lower weighs in at just over 251 grams.

The 248 grams vs. 251 grams comparison is billet vs. forged (6061 vs. 7075). Complete PDW rifles weighing in around 5lbs. Haters gonna hate.

That is a possibility. But The owner states it will be built as a plinking rifle only. I don't know which is tougher, a Bushy Carbon15 or this Aluminum hackjob...

How do you know? All the necessary holes for the LPK are there. It will probably fire, but not reliably over time.

They both use 7075. Add a finish on the billet lower and I would say there is 0 weight savings. So why did you bother to post that link to TOS about the Spikes lower again?

You know that's what I meant.

Gotcha. I misunderstood what you said earlier.

The owner of the receviers said it should be built in about a month as he is waiting on parts. I'm really curious how this will function or what the final weight will be. Unfortunately its a guy that is not local to me so I won't be able to handle the rifle when its finished.

Now that I think about it, this might actually be more reliable than all the polymer lowers than are becoming more popular nowadays. What do you guys think?

I have owned an ATI/Omni lower and it was a piece of crap. The RE threads would not stay tight. But it was light for sure. I was just afraid it would break when I dropped it.

Looks pretty light......what's the weight?

What's the point in hacking the lower up (for weight), and leaving the forward assist? Why would you cut dangerously close to stressed moving parts (like the hammer pin), but leave a big chunk of static aluminum (like the boss for the pistol grip) untouched? Not to mention that putting in the drive-through on the trigger group is asking for dirt related problems.

It looks to me like this is about looking cool, not saving weight.

Got a link to the bad reviews? Thanks.
