Just came across this round. Seems like a short term fad to me. Any thoughts?

Probably ridiculously expensive and more of a "novelty" than anything else. Don't know why anyone would bother with them.

This round showed up on almost every board I've looked at today. Reminds me of the full page glossies that ran around a few years ago with the a similar sort of fang bullet. Does not look like it would be a smooth feeder. I'll just stay with my 230 grain critical defense in .45 auto 124 gr Gold dot +p in 9mm and the 124gr Hornady in my 640 until a reputable lab or tester evaluates them

I remember a round a number of years ago called the Grabber or Pin Grabber which was allegedly developed for bowling pin matches. It was touted as being able to take a bite out of a bowling pin rather than glancing off if you didn't get a center pin hit. I never ran across any of them.

Looks pretty cool but I have learned to tamper my interest on new "revolutionary" types of ammo until I see an objective party using established protocols to test such things.

That's it. I remember the box design as well as the evil look of the bullet nose.

No kidding, drama level was high. Definitely makes you wonder about the product with that kind of marketing.

Best part was calling the ammo "highly invasive" I LOLd at that one.

What about the over penetration of the base through the gel? Highly suspect.

What I want to know is what does showing full auto hand guns have to do with this round? Or the ballistics gel after it has 30(?)+ rounds stuck in it? Definitely about as gimmicky as gimmicky can get.

Hey, gimmicky stops the bad guys dead in their tracks! And, doesn't everyone conceal-carry full auto 9mm pistols? They are so easy to come by and so cheap.:sarcastic:

Lets see pure copper bullets /cnc'd = atleast $10 per round! Yep I'll not be runin out to get any!

I watched the video the other day and my immediate thought was "over penetration". These are produced locally to me and I think they are selling for around $2 / round. All I know is, whoever is doing their marketing is a genius. They've been all over the Internet for the last few days. People will eat this stuff up as fast as they can make it.

ETA: holy crap! Apparently this stuff has already hit $300 / box on GB.

There are several 20 round boxes going for at least $150, the highest is $305. Build it and they will come.

Wait for the hype to die down, then buy a box because in 20 years when some nut rehashes the idea no one will believe this crap was ever made until you show them.

I see no reason to drop my HSTs for this. It seems like a lot of the damage is way to shallow. I want to see barrier tests with this (sheet metal, wood, denim). While I don't want to judge before seeing data, it seems like a snake-oil salesman approach to marketing your product.

I am 99% sure this round is made specifically for the "low information" gun owner. I'm the only big time gun enthusiast in an office of over 400 people. It was kind of bizarre how many of the people I've discussed guns with came up to me saying how awesome this ammo looked after seeing it on Facebook. I gave up trying to explain why the lack of a permanent crush cavity was a bad thing.

Nice video, kind of what I expected. Can't believe how crazy people are going over this stuff.

Winchester Black Talon had a similar run as it got media attention. It was black, so the media and clueless types hated it and it was given all manner of magical powers and such and called a "cop killer bullet" that would go through a vest like a .50 BMG hitting an apple.... People were paying silly prices for it. The Talon was at least an excellent bullet for the tech of the time and once they took the evil black color off it, changed the name, and refined it further, the media interest went onto other scary black things.

That guy is treating it way too lightly. Surely the extra weight and foot-pounds of energy count for something... ruptured capillaries, penetrating leather jackets, pushing aside a rib, etc. Let him try it on a chicken like the other video and see what happens.

And I bet about 99% of gun owners ARE low info. I'm sticking wtih Steelhawk ammo and Patriot Poppers.

Well there is a reason crap like Judges, CCW badges, various forms of scammunition, drastically overpriced guns (like when you walk into a shop and see a $700 DPMS gun pricetagged at $1200), etc sells so well

Also why the list of myths that fly around the gun counter is very very long.

Yep. I've lived through a few decades of this type of crap. MagSafe, Glasier Safety slugs, etc. Nanolube was a classic scam they tried to pull here.

It's funny to see members here with technical backgrounds crush those type of bottom feeders..

Heres something i found interesting about the G2 RIP ammo. After being bored on youtube i came across an ITS tactical video with DRT ammo. http://youtu.be/IAq-d8L1JHQ Noticing that it almost had the same effect in the clear gel. I found that G2 RIP ammo has DRT stamped on the bottom of the case. Best part they claim to do the same thing only DRT costs half as much and has a full caliber line up. http://drt.10poundgorilla.com/
