In today's news. Good news for Tennessee, Sumner County and Gallatin!

Don't know what they intend to build here.
-----------------------------------------

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
Beretta USA is building a new facility in Sumner County that will bring 300 jobs to the area.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam made the announcement Wednesday morning at the State Capitol.

The state-of-the-art facility is a $45 million investment and will be located in the Gallatin Industrial Park.

Nice! And good on them.

I have a suspicion their facility in Accokeek MD is on borrowed time now.

That's cool. Means when I get around to taking their factory armorer's courses it will be half the distance to the factory.

Interesting, I talked to the Beretta Rep at SHOT and he said they were staying in MD/VA but wouldn't expand any of those facilities.
So, is this an expansion, or was he told not to mention any new facilities?

Beretta's official news release:

http://www.beretta.com/en-us/beretta-usa-to-locate-new-manufacturing-facility-in-sumner-county-tennessee/

Says expansion...

"Beretta will make firearms at the new Gallatin plant from both their sporting and tactical product lines".....

As a resident of the Socialist State of Maryland, I have been blasting Beretta for speaking with fork tongue. Last year when our boy Governor was pushing for extreme gun controls, Beretta threatened to abandon plans to expand its U.S. headquarters in PG, if MD passed the proposed gun laws.

Following the passing and implementing of the extreme gun laws, zero from Beretta. Today, I salute them for their decision, one would only hope they move their HQ out of Accokeek.

EDIT: I blasted them on social media, MD firearm forums and of course on this forum. As my boss of almost 50 years stated "you have always had the to courage to admit you were wrong!" Dang, if she only knew the truth!

Thank god she doesn't visit this forum.

Now it's time for Colt, CMT/Stag, Mossberg, etc to jump on the train and look elsewhere.

Upper East Tennessee in the Tri-cities area would be awesome. Hint, hint.

Abandoning my plans to pick up a few S&Ws. No more guns from ban states for me.

Desperately hoping the governor is working hard to get Remmington to come here...THAT would be a coup.

Well written piece. Straight and to the point.

And should be a lesson to other companies in restricted States along with Magpul. Restrict the products, lose the revenue.

Good for Beretta. It'd be even better if they announced their intentions to completely move here rather than play games/split the message.

Wonder how Maryland feels about $45 Million walking out of it's State over it's gun policies?

http://www.beretta.com/en-us/gallatin/#.U86_-oA-uGt.facebook

Beretta U.S.A. Corp., located in Accokeek, Maryland, announced today that it has decided to move its manufacturing capabilities from its existing location to a new production facility that it is building in Gallatin, Tennessee. The Gallatin facility is scheduled to be opened in mid-2015. Beretta U.S.A. had previously planned to use the new Gallatin, Tennessee facility for new machinery and production of new products only.

“During the legislative session in Maryland that resulted in passage of the Firearm Safety Act of 2013, the version of the statute that passed the Maryland Senate would have prohibited Beretta U.S.A. from being able to manufacture, store or even import into the State products that we sell to customers throughout the United States and around the world. While we were able in the Maryland House of Delegates to reverse some of those obstructive provisions, the possibility that such restrictions might be reinstated in the future leaves us very worried about the wisdom of maintaining a firearm manufacturing factory in the State,” stated Jeff Cooper, General Manager for Beretta U.S.A. Corp.

Those politicians do not care. Odds are those workers are Republican or Conservative; Liberals think putting those people into the unemployment line will make the state safer. Those same politicians do not understand that loss actually gets magnified when those dollars no longer recycle through the economy addig revenue from jobs at stores, gas stations, restaurants, etc.

besides, they can always blame Bush.

Majority of the Eastern Shore is conservative, therefore one would assume the factory workers reflect their community. But, the party in power is the Dem's and as you stated they don't care. The boy wonder wants to be POTUS and he is just punching his ticket.

I have family living in Gallatin and Hendersonville. I'm glad to see Beretta taking a stand and following through with their word.

I wonder when production in TN will start.

According to the article, mid 2015.

Now if only the rest of the manufacturers would GTFO of the ban States, things would be perfect.

I would wonder if they are helping relocate the employee base? It's one thing to move, it's another entirely to leave behind employees that have been faithful.

Wonder what is going to happen when the demand cycle drops to regular levels. Will they shut down the old factory and move HQ?

A Tikka in 308 looks like it could be a good addition to show support.

Smith & Wesson, you're next! Why are they still in MA, which is the epicenter for much of modern liberalism?

CMT and Colt also need to move out of CT ASAP.

Here's a quote: "Cooper said no Maryland employee will be impacted for many months, and the company will meet with employees to discuss their interest in taking a position in Tennessee."

And Kimber and the remainder of the Freedom Group in NY. Savage as well out of MA. LWRC out of Maryland. And Mossberg out of CT...

The list could go on. Now if any of them are interested, Oklahoma is growing and has a good cost of living. Plenty of transportation networks, etc.

I kinda figured as much. I'm not sure of the cost of living between Maryland and Nashville metro, but can't be much.

They tax the rain that falls on your property here in MD...

Maryland has a 4.75% state income tax if you make between 3K-100K. Any employees deciding to relocate would be getting (in effect) a 4.75% raise right off the bat.

Oh, if they're smart they wouldn't live in Metro Nashville. Outlying communities are a MUCH better choice, but it's probably like that anywhere.

Cough* Colt *Cough

On a more serious note, good on Beretta for moving tax dollars. I hope their business grows and the economy of Gallatin and TN flourishes, not only for the benefit of the people of TN but also to encourage other firearm businesses to do the same.

Good for Beretta. Instead of slinging some BS form letter they gave actual reason that influences their choices. That Tikka is looking more and more promising.
