I picked up a SS short action .308 in a trade. The only model designation is Remington 700 on the left side of the receiver. I thought it was a 700 SPS Stainless, but I'm not completely sure.
It has the standard plain 24" barrel and magazine floor plate release. But it doesn't have the current synthetic stock or stainless or satin finished sling swivels. Instead it's in a Hogue over-molded stock, with a flattened fore-end and a Hogue recoil pad and has blued swivels. The barrel is about a medium contour.
Any idea? Is this just an earlier SPS Stainless that doesn't have the current stock configuration?
Not that it matters in any way, other than to satisfy my curiosity
