I finally got my 24" 30-06 back from bedding and swapped scopes around. I don't think the vortex viper will live long term on the 06 due to the reticle seems to be thin enough to fade away at last light. I really like the VX2 2-7x33 on my 7-08 20" Compact!! Really fits that rifle perfect. Next is checking for level good enough for what I can do with what I have, bore sight and hit the range when I can. Thought I'd share my 2 big game set ups.

That's a good looking set up you have there. I like the 30-06 in the camo scheme. I have a VX-R 2-7x33 that I plan on using on my next hog hunt in April.
If you dont mind me asking, who makes the 06 you have, again it's a looker?

It is the Winchester M70 Ultra Shadow and I tossed the cheapo stock and replaced it with McMillan stock. Much nicer set up!!!

Yea, I'm diggin that stock.
The 06 is like my Mosin, hell on my shoulder after two shoulder surgeries so I make do with a .308.
Got a hog hunt planned and I'm looking for decent bolt-action. If I can't get my hands on something I like I will just slay them with the M&P10 topped wi the VX-R but a lighter set might be nice.

My 7-08 is nice on recoil but lacks factory bullet options like 308.

I've been shooting a 7mm08 for a long time now and really like either the Hornady SST or the Federal Trophy Copper loads. Both are very accurate out of my Win M70 Extreme Weather.

Nice 2 gun setup by the way.

Since this post I sent back the McMillan stock to shorten the length of pull to 13" it just feels like I'm leaning into the gun too much and I don't have that issue with my 7/08 that has that length of pull.

Nice Winchesters! I've been thinking of either a .243 or 7-08 for my daughter. She currently has the FC in .308, I make reduced loads for her. She's not going to get a bigger than she is, so I think long term the lighter caliber will allow off the shelf option. even though there are factory reduced loads in .308.

I run the Trophy Coppers and found them to work well. 180's in the 06 and 150 in .308, so sounds like the 7-08 runs well also.

Nice set of rifles. I have that 2-7 Leupold on my Venture Predator in .308. Absolutely love the combo. Heck of a piece of glass for the price.
