A salute to those men who volunteered to perform the flyovers. Class acts, all of them. Thanks for the link.

I would like to thank you for posting the video of this event. It hit home for me because of the connections with my father, Lt. Col. Walter M. Given III. My dad flew the A-26 in Korea while assigned to the 17th BG, and also the B-25 while assigned to SAM at Andrews AFB. His final flying assignment was as the squadron commander for the 553rd Recon. Squadron at Korat RTAFB. Just to see the A-26 pass over Arlington gave me a huge swell of emotion.

My father rests in section 54.

Tzed250, your father was a genuine stud. From Marine PFC, to flipping the bird at SAM's. He must have had a hell of a scrapbook.

I would have loved to have poured him a tasty beverage, and just listen to him talk.

He would have enjoyed that. He enjoyed the good times at the officers club almost as much as time in the left seat. I believe he served during a great time for men that loved to fly. With more than 8000 hours of flying time he did have plenty of stories to tell. AT-6, B-17, B-25, A-26, T-33, C-54, SA-16, T-29, EC-121, and more.

It wasn't an easy row to hoe at that time though. By the time he retired more than half of the men he had gone through flight school with had died in operational accidents or in combat.

He did like to tell about one event while flying the SAM missions. During a flight he encountered a bad thunderstorm and he and the right seat were having a tough time of it. The General they were transporting came up to the flight deck and started to complain about the rough ride. With his hands full already, my dad turned to the General and said "Get back to your seat and buckle in sir, I'm the ***damn aircraft commander". Nothing else was said.

I'm proud of him, as well as the others that rest with him in that incredible place of honor.
