I like the V-Max as well.

There's some irony in praise for the V-Max coming from a guy with Blitzking as a handle. ;)

Another VMAX fan here...I prefer the 60 grain version...it seems to be more accurate in my gun.

A very similar bullet that I decided to try...the 50 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip...has a very similar effect on groundhogs...I like the Nosler for the boattail too.

A 3,000+ fps impact on a 10 pound groundhog is a sight to behold...if only I had somebody to snap the pic.

Prarie Dogs blowing up? REALLY? I have a buddy who LOVES AR's, and LOVES to blow up Prarie Dogs, and while I admit he's not the most educated AR enthusiast, but he's close friends with the guys at GA ARMS and I figured he had SOME knowledge of ammo.
My point is, that he has always told me that IF I want to go hunt 'dogs with him, and IF I want them to BLOW UP, that I would need to bring an AR10 in 7.62, as the 5.56 simply doesn't blow them up that well.
Do you have a much different opinion on this matter?

Secondly,
To the original poster. SWEET PIC man! I love it!
However, I just had to ask HOW in the world did you get that pic timed so perfectly? Was it luck, or could you do it any time you shoot a bird? I am probably the most inexperienced guy when it comes to photography, but I didn't think that it was very easy to catch a shot like this, at just the right moment??
Thanks for any info.

Here is what a 50 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip (3,100 fps muzzle velocity) will do to a 5 pound ground hog at 347 yards (lucky shot)...I imagine a tiny little P'dog would be pretty much exploded.

I shot this one few hours ago...I was coyote hunting...but wasn't seeing any coyotes. I hope the pic isn't considered too graphic...if it is, my apologies...feel free to delete it.

I read the previous post and thought...well...A pic is worth 100 words.

Re: explosion... The 36gr "Varmint Grenade" from Black Hills is appropriately named. Try some.

Will the Varmint Grenades stay together in a 1 in 9 twist... I believe they were designed for slower twist.

I thought about trying some of those bullets (I like Barnes Bullets anyway) the day I bought the Ballistic Tips...but i had my doubts that they would hold up to the spin if pushed to 3,300 fps (possibly more...but my barrel is only 16 inches)

That looks like fun. I do nuisance wildlife removal but due to the urban nature of my work I rarely get to shoot pigeons, starlings, squirrels etc with anything but pellet guns.
Thanks for sharing:D .

I looked into it a little...

It appears that the Barnes "Varmint Grenade" will withstand the fast twist...even 1 in 7.

I'll try them out soon...
