I was browsing Caspian Arm's site, and just out of curiosity browsed their engraving section:

There's a logo under the title SOTF, that looks familiar, but I can't really tell what it's from.

What is it?

(Also, it's strange that they have engraving options for US Army, USMC, USAF, and USCG, but not USN, except for the SEAL logo.)

I'm gonna guess that isn't military (we tend to avoid the totenkopf in this country) and wager that it is Survival Of The Fittest.

That doesn't look like totenkopf to me.

Or is totenkopf considered any military skull emblem?

I Googled SOTF and got "Special Operations Task Force". Went to images and saw similar logos with skulls, swords , and arrows combinations.

That emblem looks like some Vietnam era SMU's.

Optactical.com (http://www.optactical.com/) uses the same emblem over a mildot crosshairs.

That logo is often associated with Nous Defions and was used quite a bit by various Army Special Forces teams (unofficially).

I was going to say OpTac too.

Thanks for that info! Led to some cool Google results.

I guess it's a Vietnam thing?

A bunch of similar logo available for purchase. I've seen a baseball cap worn by an active SF sgt. a few years ago. I think the Nous Defions phrase started to catch on in the war against terror era, not Vietnam.

I don't know where it originated, but we still use special ops task forces today, like in Afghanistan. Usually its a mixture of different units grouped by AOR IIRC.

Death head, basically skull...typically associated with German forces.

I'll venture a guess with post 9/11 SOF hunter killer teams

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Task_Force_88_(anti-terrorist_unit)

I read a fascinating book about task force black/knight

Edit to add: I think from the sword it is for Task Force 11 also known as Task Force Sword One of the first HVT hunter teams formed in October 2001 to my understanding.

I always associated it with Nous Defions.

SOT Schoolhouse at Bragg which stood up as another unit stood down (the other unit originated the emblem as they stood down).

Nous Defions

The semi-official SFARTEC motto and patch. IMHO, you should not rock this logo unless you actually went to the course.

I didn't know it was affiliated with that. That's a badass course.
