I'm a bit confused here. What I want is a dual purpose light in the Surefire P2X I'm about to order; one for use as a normal flashlight as well as a weapon mounted light. When mounted on the weapon, I want momentary on. When removed, on/off. The switch will be directly mounted to an 11" NSR. Uses will be home defense, carbine classes, hog hunting.

All Surefire setup, no cap swapping needed due to the on/off switch and plugin momentary tape switch:

I like this switch also since it's rail mounted:
Plugin Switch: http://www.lapolicegear.com/sf-sr07-remote-dual-switch.html
Tailcap only: http://www.lapolicegear.com/suxmtaswascl.html

Budget Setup:

Are the tailcaps for G-series lights interchangeable with the P2X? Are the Primary Arms switches GTG? I know the Surefire stuff is quality, but I would rather save $$ and get the Primary Arms over the Surefire if quality is up to par. Is the price difference really worth it in the end?

This will be used for home defense, hunting, night carbine classes, etc. No duty use; I would definitely go all Surefire if it were for patrol or duty.

I hope I'm on the right track here. I've done some research, but can't seem to find much info. I'm completely new to weapon mounted lights, so please forgive me.

If you buy a normal P2X, it will be dual output. If you buy the EAG it will be single output with a clicky tailcap. If you want a momentary cap that is push button for momentary, and twist for constant on, the 6PX Tactical has a switch like that, but I don't see it listed on their site as a single part.

I happen to have one of those caps as I switched my 6PX over to a clicky tailcap and have no need for the momentary cap.
I have no idea if a millennium tailcap will fit a 6PX or P2X.

The other alternative is you can buy a 320 lumen 6PX with momentary cap, and then buy the Z59 clicky cap and have both. Exactly what I did, though I don't use it on a rifle. Here is the cap. http://www.surefire.com/catalog/product/view/id/314/s/click-on-lock-out-tailcap-z59/category/142/

For a rifle, I prefer the Scout lights.

I will definitely be getting the single output P2X. Dual output has no use on a weapon IMO. Regarding the cap, once I receive the light and play around with it, I may come back to you on that cap. I was looking pretty hard at the 6PX, but I like the 500 lumens in the P2X for night time hog hunts.

I would get a Scout, but I am not going to spend that much for a dedicated weapon light. I prefer the dual use handheld/weapon mount like I'm trying to accomplish here.
