View Full Version : Slide-Ride Handgun Optic for Defense, or Hell No?

How many of you currently (or previously) use a slide-ride optic on your defensive handgun?

1) Durability? Have you had any quit or lose zero?
2) Speed? Do you lose the dot in follow-up fire? Is it faster or slower than irons?
3) Visibility? Issues with fogging or rain?

Many instructors seem to have tried them then gone back to iron sights. How about you?

Everything I've read says the optics aren't ready for true duty/defensive use yet. Check out Modernserviceweapons.com and read Hilton's review. I think he's broken 5 or more Trijicons on pistols.

If I was determined to use an optic on a handgun, I'd use the new Geissele setup (see the SHOT show thread for pics). The slide doesn't reciprocate and you still have a rail for the light.

That was my concern. I've seen Hilton's posts. He still raves over them on his USPSA guns, but remember him dumping them from his duty/carry gun.
