One of the many things that hit me in the gut when I visited Pearl Harbor was the fact that they are still laying to rest Veterans of the USS Arizona with their shipmates. The survivors of the attack are given the chance to be interred with their shipmates.

Just out of frame of this pic I snapped there are blanks spaces in the marble for more names to be added. That was pretty sombering to me.

Interesting that survivors more than 50 years later would choose to be buried with their shipmates.

Not trying to be disparaging in any way, but I don't know a lot of Normandy survivors who want to be buried in France.

I wonder how many were eligible for places like Arlington and still opted for the Arizona.

I can understand why a WWII US Navy Veteran would want to return to the USS Arizona and be buried with their shipmates.

I have a relative that went down with the USS Arizona when it was attacked. Visiting Hawaii to pay my respects is on my bucket list.

Respect.

My wife and I were very fortunate to be able to visit the USS Arizona a few months ago and it will be an experience that will I remember vividly for the rest of my days.

RIP to the 2,335 servicemen who lost their lives December 7th, 1941.

Its a Navy thing SteyrAUG, shellbacks and such. Every vet or any service has the right to be buried at sea. I have personally taken part in 5 of them.
