Heads up on the 2014 NPRC. The conference has unlimited learning and networking opportunities. Guest speakers are numerous and authoritative..... the vendor area is replete with LE gear and services from outfits every cop should have on his or her radar.

The competition is relevant and exciting. It is for hard-charging gunfighters and ego-at-the-door learning-curve climbers alike. Visit the Centermass site and check out some vids. You don't have to be a HSLD uberoperator to win it-- you just need good solid skills and to know your gear well.

I've been a proud part of this in one capacity or another for several years now and a more well oiled machine you will not find. Lunches, banquet, drinks, presentations, a torrent of knowledge and experience, comraderie and fun. Check it out!

Some vids of the event from previous years. It is physical but don't get the impression you have to be a 23 year old athlete to win-- the shooting still matters more. Marksmanship and knowing your system is what gets it done here.

Every cool I have never heard of this event before. Now I just need a shit ton of OT, actually there is no way I could afford that this year. Maybe in a few.

But thanks for making me aware of it!

Good deal Dave. One of the guest speaker debriefs a couple years ago was given by a guy from NC or SC, not sure, about his part in interdicting some heavily armed bank robbers with his AR15 SBR (and why he decided after that that a suppressor would be good to have).

Below is a link to the speaker line-up. Never a dull moment..... NPRC has had some very notable speakers in the past-- Chris Kyle was one four-five years ago. The debriefs are always riveting. And don't forget on the day of the competition, the vendors are set up at the range, so none of this "pick it up, look it over, shoulder it, put it down and say 'hmm' " -- at NPRC you check out the product by SHOOTING it. There is time during the competition for competitors, too, to sample vendors' wares.

Competition intent and rules. Note that the basic idea is a competition for street carbines and not tricked-out match guns, but if you read the rules you will see that there is absolutely a philosophy of being open to realistic performance enhancements.

When Detroit was listed as the location, I (as a native Detroiter) immediately started wondering where in Detroit such a competition would be held. I imagined it taking place in one of the many, extensively destroyed and abandoned neighborhoods and old abandoned factories, sort of a post-apocalyptic training zone.

That would have been stellar. Hell, there's hardly anyone to hit with a stray round in huge areas of the city, and no one would notice the gunfire much, as it's rather common-place.

Oh well, maybe next year.:D:D

Looks like an opportunity for LEOs to hone their skills, learn some life-saving knowledge, and haze themselves at the same time.

Those drills looks intense, but effective.

Less than two weeks out and I'm looking forward to another great event.

It's one of those things where it is usually at or near capacity as far as sign-ups and yet I don't know of a walk-in ever being turned away. And an event about which one can really say, you have to be there to know how good it is. Organizationally it is without peer-- Jeff Felts and crew are amazingly adept at making things happen.

Bottom line, don't be afraid to sign up at the last minute..... you'll be glad you did.

Had a chance to hang with some guys from the Ohio Tactical Officers Ass'n this week. Many of them are going to the NPRC, many on their own dime. It's funny-- some are guys I know to be hard-bitten, real-deal gunmen, some others are more on the fresh-faced side, never having done anything like this. But they were all talking about it excitedly, questions and advice going both ways. NPRC camaraderie blooming even before the event starts..... nice.
