"In an interview with the Daily Item in Sunbury, Pa., 19-year-old Miranda Barbour said she wants to plead guilty to killing Troy LaFerrara in November. She also said in the interview that she has killed at least 22 other people from Alaska to North Carolina in the last six years as part of her involvement in a satanic cult."

Didn't she say 22 from Alaska down to North Carolina? That would make it more plausible.
Generally there are two kinds of satanists.
The common "Lavay" variety which actually don't believe in Satan, or God, and practice ritualistic non belief. They basically exist to mock religious people, especially Christians and Catholics and while typically as harmless as the next guy it's about as retarded as devoting part of your time to ritual non belief in the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus. They mostly do it just to get a rise out of people and for shock value, if anyone ever read the core beliefs of Lavay Satanism they'd probably be surprised how many they actually agree with.
Then there are satanists who actually believe in Satan, which by default requires belief in God, and have deliberately chosen the losing team. These people are by definition dangerous religious whack jobs and are potentially capable of anything and typically a lot scarier than the worst Christians who blow up abortion clinics or drown their children because they think they are possessed by demons.
There is also technically a third variety which are predatory shitbag serial killer types who don't really believe any of this stuff but call themselves satanists, usually done in order to deflect from the fact that they are predatory shit bag serial killer types.

Yeah I got that but my post was simply the age old adage "ART imitates life". NOT the other way around, meaning that TV shows like the one quoted are sometimes based upon actual events. "The truth is stranger than fiction" and all that. In no way do I believe people commit their heinous acts due to simply watching a television program or because they didn't get that pony they wanted on their 5th birthday.

After reading about Robert Hansen and watching the film about his one victim who survived her ordeal . . . I have to say AK is one heck of a place to dump bodies. Some of his victims have still never been found.
As for the two 02 thieves mentioned in the article by the OP, they butchered that John from the CL ad for no other reason than to watch him die and the "thrill of the kill". Chances are they have done it before, maybe it was their first and they are making the others up for some sick pleasure from the media attention. A lot of these sickos want to be caught so as to some how be able to brag about what they have done. Either way, the FBI still needs to do their job and rule out if they did do these other acts or not.

Robert Hanson had a hell of a lot of resources at his disposal, including personal wealth, an airplane and tons of wilderness experience. He also live in Alaska at a time of much less technology and a general lawlessness that we do not have right now. She claims that the "majority" of the killing occurred in Alaska, whatever that means. There are currently only 82 reported missing persons in Alaska. This covers then entire active missing persons from the 70's until current. She claims she's been part of this cult for six years. In that six year bracket there are only three missing persons she would even have theoretical access to. I have good sources and they don't believe a word she says. I will say, that if she breaks something in Alaska due to associations may might have (cult?), that would be a great thing.
We recently had a serial killer murder a young lady in Anchorage. He was tracked down and caught extremely quickly. Alaska law enforcement is pretty damned good at their job.
