Gents...JUST read an article saying STEYR ARMS is moving/expanding to Bessemer Alabama.
This is GREAT news of course for Alabama, coming on yesterdays announcement of Remington coming here to Huntsville. { a mile down from where I currently work, btw!} Its also a big F-U to New York and its commie regime. Its FAR past time gunmakers, and others, realize there is little profitable future in the union loving, high tax, socialist, anti-gun, intensely regulated North. And "Going West" aint an option anymore, either. COME SOUTH. We aint perfect...but we are A HELL of a lot better.

EDIT: I was incorrect about them moving to Al, they are already here. They have purchased a larger building and are EXPANDING in Bessemer Al. Still great news!

Good for Steyr and good for Alabama. I have wondered what all these anti-gun states think of losing these business. Honestly I doubt they care very much overall.

It's nice to see Remington moving to AL, but Steyr is just moving down the road from Trussville, AL to Bessemer. About 20 minutes away to a larger facility

The funny part is that if this trend keeps going I wonder how much of the defense/arms industry will be down south?

A lot of newer companies might be, but the big names are not: Colt, Remington Arms and ammo, hornady, federal, Winchester, smith and Wesson, etc are not in the south

Good on Steyr, good on Remington, good on Beretta, good on Magpul, etc.

However, I feel these states will get their lost tax revenues through the people living there, one way or another.

This. To me the biggest F-you to the commie states is to stay there. I mean does something 1500 jobs (hypothetical) really matter to the people of new york? I mean these were 1500 people making evil guns that only kill our children. I bet every time a gun company leaves a liberal state the only thing those libtards say is 'good riddance'

The real F-you would be sticking around in those states. at least IMO, but I do see it as a better business decision to move to some where like alabama.

I would love to see a company like Colt move to a right to work state and dump all of their Connecticut union workers. Now that is a F-you to the libtards

The left has an easy strategy they often employee when in need, raise taxes on those still around and willing to work.

Been under a rock so to speak... is the big R moving everything to Huntsville or just their black rifle manufacturing. I'd love to see R give the big social finger to NY guberment but I think they'll just move their not so politically correct product line manufacturing out of state. All or nuttin.

Among other considerations, it's probably a difficult decision to abandon your original location with it's long history and heritage. Really the "newcomers" who are at odds with those values and traditions should have to be the ones to relocate, I recommend Cuba.

Didn't Colt open a plant in Florida, Winchester opened a huge plant in MS, and others too numerous to mention either moved outright to the south, or expanded operations already running here. Ill bet it wont be long AT ALL before the big uns leave and go elsewhere. HOPEFULY, southern bound.

A portion of their operations have been there for a while. Friend of mine knows someone in management. Sounds like they're expanding.

Edit: just read your edit

Depends. Do they have hot Brazilian neighbors there?

There is more to it. One the face it's just the jobs. However, it could potentially impact the local and state tax base. Especially if they move their entire operation to the south. Take a look at how much money Remington Arms generates yearly. It's in the hundreds of millions.
