Obviously there's variables as far as barrel length, brand, etc. but generally speaking what distance is the 6.8 spc II round accurate to?

Define Accurate and your Expectations for the 6.8SPC Cartridge... I think it would be easier to start with those things being known.

What are you needing it to accomplish?

Everything I've read says 6.8 is effective at roughly the same ranges 5.56 is. A 115gr SMK launched at a nominal 2650 will go transonic around 650 yards. This can be fudged back and forth with varying bullet weight, BC, and velocity. But the bottom line is that the 6.8 was designed to be a better functioning round out of shorter barreled rifles. You can really only squeeze so much powder in a cartridge that has to fit in an AR-15's magazine well.

I'm not sure what your uses are. But there is a certain point where you're just better off moving into a bigger platform with more case capacity.

If you are looking for long range performance out of a standard length AR there are several 6mm wildcats based off the 6.5 Grendel that are promising. I am waiting not so patiently on my 6mm fat rat to be completed. There is also a 6mm Rat and a 6mm WOA all based on the Grendel cartridge. Bad part is it's a handload only deal and brass is expensive.

I have a 16" Wilson recce barrel on my 6.8. It's a sub-MOA performer out to 300 yards with Hornady 110gr HPBT. I haven't tried it farther than that to date, but I also don't plan to shoot anything with it any farther. It starts to drop off pretty quickly after 300 and I'd think holdover and wind drift past 300 would be more of an issue than group size.

Not scientific of course , but I've shot mine out to 400 with 115 grn Sierras, smacking melon size rocks. At that distance I was hitting as well as my buddy shooting an AR10 ...

I stretched my M6A3 14.7 to hit steel at 500 give or take. Very ideal range conditions and a good sandbag of course. As referenced above, I think this is the kind of question that is so broad it welcomes a very subjective answer. As far as I have read, the ballistics more or less mimic 5.56, and based on my own non-scientific observations I'd say that's pretty accurate. :D Pun intended.

To get a better answer, maybe you could offer a comparison round? Say, for instance, " I'm building an AR that I want to have more punch than 5.56, I'm considering 6.8 or .300BLK or 6.5....", or whatever. I think you'll probably get some more useful answers.

If you want long range accuracy, the .223 with 77gr SMKs will run circles around the retarded 6.8 all day long. It's accurate for us from 100 to 1050 yards.

We messed with that 6.8 briefly, but quickly unloaded that project. Marginal short range accuracy and no reliable mags? BYE BYE!

The above is simply not my experience.... Never had any reliability issues, mag related or otherwise with the 6.8 and the six8 pmags are as reliable as 5.56 pmags . I would also like to see actual comparisons that show the 5.56 running circles around it as its simply not my experience.

6.8 is an awesome hunting round out of a 16" or less barrel 300 yards or less.
I have killed a lot of deer and hogs with one and love the overall package.
Banged still out to 500 but never really focused on it's long range use because there are better rounds for that.
6.5 Grendel is a LOT better for long range but you really need the longer barrel to realize the potential.
I like my ARs short and light though..

I have a LWRCI M6A2 in 6.8 SPC that is the cat's meow out to 500 yards...

Count down to ruptured aneurysm: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

All joking aside, I have 1 rifle in 6.8 that offers comparable accuracy to similarly equipped 5.56 caliber AR's out to 300 yards.

I've shot my 6.8 to 500 with great accuracy. Bench rest shooting at 100 provides sub-MOA all day long with 110 HPBT reloads. It's no 1000 yard shooter that's for sure. I don't need it for that though.
