Good on the LEOs for doing the right thing. Seems to be a pretty decent ending to the story.
I can't blame the woman for not knowing the value of it.

I wished I was the lucky bastard to come upon such a deal. This is why you have guys outside these "buy backs" with cash in hand.

graffex - go check your PM's, and then cease the baiting and instigating behavior.
The 1st story: Gun in LA CA will most likely be shredded
The link to the 2nd case in CT, allowed to be sold off!
Yeah, the guy is an idiot. But, I also highly doubt that the weapon is legally registered which makes it a federal and state offense in CA. The gun could also be stolen as well. Unfortunately because of our stupid NFA laws there isn't even a mechanism in place to legally register it or do anything much else because the BATFE considers it contraband.
We had a widow turn in her late husbands war trophy.... A Japanes Type 99 machine gun. My LT ended up calling his buddy at the ATF and supposedly it was put in a museum.

I think the title of the article and calling someone an idiot is way out of line. Some people have zero idea what some weapons are worth and would rather get rid of them just to see them gone. My mother for example is clueless about what I have invested in my safe and would probably take the first offer given.
It is sad to see a piece of history like that gone though and would make a nice museum piece since it can't be registered under NFA. It looked to be in great shape.

This is why my will dictates certain people to deal with my firearms in the event of my demise.
BTW, my Grandmother gave away my Grandfathers entire WWII sheepskin bomber outfit to the Goodwill after he died (and before I was born). It was all painted up as well. Jacket, pants, boots, and gloves.....there may have been a hat too. All that was left when I got older was a parka he had from the Korean War and some chevrons.....my Uncle does have his medals though...
