I ordered an A2 stock made by Rock River Arms from Joe Bob Outfitters. I got the entire assembly for $64. This is the 1st A2 stock I've ever had or put my hands on. After pulling it out of the wrapper and inspecting it I noticed the trapdoor is pretty sloppy a far as having play from side to side. It seems to lock up securely but can be rattled side to side just by shaking the stock. Is this normal or should I return it?

Some of the M16A2's I've used had a lot of lateral play in the access door and some were tight. Functionally, it makes no difference. It is fairly easy to correct, though. The hinge is a removable piece, and the "ears" on the hinge can be squeezed closer together to limit lateral movement of the access door. Alternately, you could use/make shims for the hinge pin.

I wouldn't bother with it though. Once you shove a cleaning kit into the buttstock, that should put enough pressure on the access door from the inside to keep it from noticeably moving around.
