Looking to change my A2 stock for the Vltor A5 EMOD kit. I live in Northern Austin, Texas. Anyone here know of a 'smith that is good with AR's and would do this correctly(staking etc..). I'm sure I could drop it off anywhere and they'd say "Yeah, I can do that." Looking for an actual ARsmith. I do not have the tools or the experience to do it myself at this time.
Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks. Great forum.

Honestly, staking is not that difficult, all you need is spring punch (like $3 at harbor freight, and a ball peen, another $4 )

spanner wrench: http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/rifle-tools/wrenches/ar-15-m4-stock-wrench-prod16882.aspx
a bench vise might be the more pricey if you don't have one. you just need to secure the lower (buffer tube) good.
heck i use this baby vise from HF

ive used this sucker for quite a few things, it even holds my geissele reaction rod sturdy! (i bolted it to my table)
i did find this cheap (works good) lower mag block at academy. but its better to hold the buffer tube while staking not the lower.

here is a good vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCWDT1B_EIk
but if you are rather weary of screwing it up, here's a search for you.

by the way: Welcome to M4C. I Think you will find plenty of good info here, do some digging! It really is worth it to take the time and learn how your gun is assembled. Most parts on an AR can be installed without a gunsmith. You don't have to buy the expensive tools. Might save some $$ in the long run.

Watched a couple of videos on this procedure. Guess its not that complicated at all. Thanks for the reply. How do you know you've got 40 ft/lbs on the castle nut using the castle nut wrench?

I don't think that rock river wrench is torque wrench compatible, you could use this: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-KMR-Barrel-Nut-Wrench-p/bcm-kmr-bnw.htm
and a torque wrench: http://www.harborfreight.com/1-2-half-inch-drive-click-type-torque-wrench-239.html#.Ux_anYXp1tA
I personally, dont use a HF Torque wrench, but a PROTO one. ( I work on my vehicles and use it mostly there, but thats a $200 wrench  )
To be honest, you might end up spending more in tools if you don't have any at all than just paying a 'smith. look into it.
Stop by my class in San Antonio this coming this weekend and you can do it yourself under guidance.

Damn, now that is an offer!
I can do it but if you want an actual smith who specializes in ARs (and 1911s) check with Aaron Hayes of Hayes Custom Guns
Good guy, active competitve shooter, etc..

Either he found someone else or he gave up since he didn't show up and has been silent here.
Hank Fleming, he's off South Congress. Excellent work.

Sorry for the silence. I have decided to leave the A2 stock on for now. Fits me fine like it is really. Thank you all for the input.
Iraqgunz, what is the class you are speaking of?
