Anyone read this book? I did a search and a few threads popped up, but I got a "data base error" when I tried to read them to see.

I believe a noted member here was involved in the rescue who may or may not be at liberty to comment. I met with my cousin in Panama (story below) who knew the author, and recommended the book to me. I had heard of it before, but never looked into it further. I will now:

Six Minutes to Freedom Paperback
by Kurt Muse, John Gilstrap

Six Minutes to Freedom spins the remarkable tale of Kurt’s arrest by Noriega’s henchmen and his months of imprisonment; the squalid conditions he faced in Panama’s infamous Modelo Prison; his eyewitness accounts of his fellow inmates’ torture; and the plight of Kurt’s family as they fled for their lives. And it reveals, for the first time, the astonishing details of the long-awaited day when helicopters arrived in a firestorm of bullets to whisk Kurt Muse from under the noses of thugs who had been ordered to kill him.

This is Kurt’s thrilling and highly personal story—the story of an American hero on foreign soil, who risked his life for his beliefs and for freedom…and became the only American civilian ever rescued by the elite Delta Force.

Info of possible interest:

My great aunt married a Panamanian in the 20s, and was a well known musician in Panama and the region. Took me a while, but I tracked down a third cousin, who knew my aunt well (was married to his grandfather) and he mentioned the author and book above when we discussed some of the events of that time.

Read it a couple years ago. I was mostly interested in the rescue mission which is described at the end of the book. Most of the book deal with the background of Kurt Muse and his involvement with the anti Noriega campaigns.

As for the member here who was involved in the Operation Acid Gambit, the cat is out of the bag also:

There was a show on the History channel and then the Military channel that dedicated an entire episode to this operation. Several members of the rescue unit were interviewed.

Many videos on youtube, here is one of them:

Read it, liked it. To me the rescue and US mil operation was secondary...it is a good read and gave a great background on the lead-up to US involvement in 1989. Will, of you want it PM me and I will send it to you.
