View Full Version : Converting a Saiga Rifle
I'm interested in gunsmiths that convert a Saiga 7.62X39 into an AK-47(NJ compliant)rifle.I know of Rifle Dynamics. Thanks for any help.
JBI Armory in texas has done good work for me in the past.
Speaking of Saiga conversions...
I picked up a Saiga 7.62x39 with the intention to convert it with my tax return funds.
I have been trying to find a list of all the parts I need to buy for a full end conversion, but I mostly end up looking through fora threads regarding people only doing the back-end conversion.
Does anyone here know which parts I need to get for the full convesion besides the most obvious ones? I want to make sure I don't miss anything. So far, I have a rifle dynamics AR stock adapter on the way. That's it.
For the fore end of the rifle you need a gas block with a bayonet lug, handguard retainer and to thread the muzzle to accept standard AK muzzle brakes.
Thank you. I think my Siaga has threads concealed underneath. I've heard of some of them doing that.

At the minimum (aside from the stock) new FCG, disconnecter spring, pistol grip nut, pistol grip screw, bullet guide, and maybe a trigger guard (depending on how successful you are in removing the old one w/o damaging it too much.
If you want to use AK magazines, you'll need a bullet guide.
Something to plug the extra holes in the receiver would be good to have.
It's been quite a few years since I did mine, but back then I found it easier to buy all the parts from a guy on a Saiga forum that sold them all in a kit form. He still has a website selling the parts as Dinzagarms.
Looks like for my purposes, it's gonna be cheaper to buy a Bulgy parts kit with everything because it will be cheaper than buying the parts piecemeal.
Where is the best place to get a kit? I've seen some websites but some look kind of sketchky (like Rguns).
Something you might want to consider when converting a Saiga (or building an AK) is U.S. Code - Title 18 - Part 1 - Chapter 44 - § 922.
