For those of you that have not heard of the IWAL 2, it was a project started by a little company called Hayes Research. The goal was to create a fair priced, IR laser that was offset, QD/repeat zero and was compatible with the common tailcaps and batteries. These lasers are dependable, waterproof, shockproof and are easy to acquire!

IWAL 2's are compatible with PentagonLight and SureFire tailcaps. They can also use the ARMS and LaRue Tactical #17S mounts. The unit is powered via a CR123A battery (same battery that SureFire and PentagonLights use).

The laser itself (no mount or tailcap) is $499. They are not on my web site yet so you will have to call me to place you order.

Is there anything like this that is available with a visible laser? Something nice and small and compact?

No visible laser. If you want a quality offset laser, buy the LDI OTAL. They run between $400-$470.

Grant,

I'd hate to say it.. BUT - I take your word that the laser is durable and dependable.... What about its mounting system ???

I had seen 4 M900a break at Quantico this week along... throw levers busted right up.. Flashlights still work.. But throw levers busted up !

Has there been any drop testing or the such down with this system ?

Brett,

The lever found on the M900A is the ARMS #17. We all know that they are not a reliable lever and are prone to breaking. VG's also can receive a lot of force applied to them. A rail mounted laser on the other hand does not.

The IWAL's are generally shipped with LT #17S mounts. No one has ever broken one to my knowledge.

I have not drop tested them personally, but some of my customers have beat on them pretty well without any issues.

Does anyone know the MOA of the "dot" this laser projects?

I've heard from a few people it's 9MOA.

Here is a picture of my IWAL 2 that I got from Grant a while back on a police target to give you a reference of the dot size to the human figure

I got a IWAL2 from Grant early on when he first had them (that's mine with the ARMS mount at the start of this thread on a rifle length MRP rail) and at 100 yards the dot is about 6MOA.

This unit has been totally bulletproof, and the only modifications to it that I have made has been a switch to the LaRue mount (thanks again Grant), and I tightened up the tension on the adjusters by preloading the spring a few mm.

My first test was to zero it and leave it on the gun for several shooting sessions and after 600+ rounds of BHBB 75gr ammo, it hadn't changed zero at all!
The ability to mount it on a rifle, zero it to the Aimpoint, then use it with the helmet mounted PVS-14, makes it one of the most valuable accessories I have ever bought.
Lately I have used it on the little M92 Krink, and while this weapon's muzzle flash at night is impressive, in no way does it lessen the usefulness of the IR laser and scoring chest hits on silhouette targets out past 50 yards is absurdly easy.

Once again, thanks Grant!

I've used a IWAL since April of last year. I took one to Blackwater's HRSO course in May of last year and it performed great there. We had several night shoots and the one night we did the driving training with NODS on the track, I used the IWAL to mark the instructors car for everyone to see their position.

Several courses later, both as a student and a instructor, the IWAL has had its fair knocks and it works like a charm.

Its a good piece of kit as far as I am concerned.

What is the range of visibility inconjunction with gen 3 pvs 14? The last Hayes that I played with was under 3w and was barely visible at over 150yd. Also, have they upped the wattage?

I can see mine for hundreds of yards. About the longest distance that I have observed it would be close to 500 yards, and it was still pretty bright.

Just curious, what are you guys running as switches on your IWAL's. I have a digilight tape switch, and was thinking about a push button; maybe a momentary/ constant on for hunting. Would a push buttom for a 6P work?

You can run ANY tape switch from SF that will fit a 6P/G2. Most peple run the XM06 from what I have seen.
