Well, the FBI NICS Firearm Background Checks came out for March 2014 last night.
Overall, March numbers (as adjusted by the NSSF) were down 18% from last year (no surprise), but up 3% from March 2012. Long term trend in gun purchasing is still strong.
Anyways, I wanted to draw your attention to North Carolina, which posted some eye-popping numbers.
In January, the raw NC number was 41,804. This compares to the NSSF adjusted number of 21,355 (which excludes background checks for CCW's).
In February, the raw NC number was 224,667. This compares with the NSSF adjusted number of 24,919.
In March, the raw NC number was 541,978. This compares with the NSSF adjusted number of 19,790.
I don't think NC folks bought that many more guns - it sounds like more background checks are being done on existing CCW holders (both in-state and out of state).
Can NC LEO's chime in?
I didn't realize that NC went to 100% recognition of all out of state CCW's. When did that happen? Not that I'm complaining.
