Changing Stock

I have a Colt Socom and I'm going to replace the standard collapsible stock with a Magpul CTR. My scom is mil-spec so can I just swap the stock out and leave the original buffer and buffer spring?

Yeah just make sure the CTR you buy is mil-spec and not commercial size.

Gotcha!! I'm a newbie with AR's and didn't know there was commercial/Mil-Spec until I got to reading around some. Anyone know why?
