The EOTech 553's (black) are finally out!!! Here are some pics for you guys.

For those of you that do not know, the 553 utilize CR123A batts, built in riser mount with ARMS throw levers and a tethered battery cap.

Man, I wish Mark L. would have been able to do a replacement base for this. Nonetheless its a good move forward I think with the battery change.

Agree 100% The base on the 553 is not an ARMS design though. They do use their levers, but that is about it. One of the first improvements I noticed over a standard ARMS mount is that they put a rather large square cross bar in the back. This fits into a rail slot and helps keep the mount in place. So even with the levers opened, the optic has very little play in it.

This is most likely as good as it is going to get when dealing with ARMS levers.

Thanks for the heads up Grant!

BTW, do you a pic of the 553 mounted as far forward as possible on the recevier rail with a Troy BUIS mounted behind it?

I'd like to see how much space there is for using the buttons.

I don't have a TROY on here, but you can see how much room you have to work with.

I have to admit that I like it!

It would look (and work) great on my new Colt 6920 ;)

Nice. I want one. The serial number code "thingy" will match my MUR too! :D

Do you think there would be issues mounting it further forward (rear lever on upper and forward lever on the handguard) on a rifle with rail system that provides a continues top rail, like a Troy or DD Lite?

I personally think it is ALWAYS a bad idea to mount one lever on the receiver and and one the rail. Either push it all the way forward or leave it on the receiver.

Very impressive.

It looks like EoTech has hit another home run.

Thanks for the pics Grant!

I sure wish they would have made it with one lever so it could be pushed further out.

IMHO, having two levers makes the smaller footprint less useful because it still takes up more upper receiver rail space than a 552/512 that's mounted further forward.

Gotta agree with you Yojimbo.

I need/want to move up from my pre-rev F 552 and I am stuck between going with the 553 (and either move it forward or replace my LMT buis), or get a ref F 512/522 or maybe go with an aimpoint.

Decisions, decisions.

Thanks for the info Grant. It's an exciting product.

Yes it does, but if your running a Mono system (MRP, SCAR, VIS, LT's) then you don't have to worry about any of that. :D

It makes my 'N' battery 2002 511 look like something outta the Mezoic era in comparison. I like the way they have radius'd the front of the window shroud back to allow more peripheral vision thru the window itself. And the tethered batt capp is a 'spot-on' upgrade from the original design - and looks like L7 has taken the sight to a new level. My .2cents

Why do they put the "MILITARY/LEO USE" on it? As if they weren't planning all along to sell to the huge civvy market...

Am I supposed to feel like a "tacti-cool" civilian with it on my M4?

Just venting a pet peeve...

Ummmm...

I'm not too happy about not being able to hang it out over the receiver. That could be a deal breaker for me. Do you think there's enough room to mount a Troy BUIS behind it?

That's what I'm wondering too.

The Troy rear BUIS only takes up 1 slot, so it does look like it would fit behind the 553 in Grant's picture.

I suspect its low enough to not interfere with the EOTech controls.

I'll bet that any fixed sights would be a big pain and some like the LMT rear sight wouldn't work at all.

Perhaps Grant can take us a picture? :p

From the pics it looks like #2 slot/rail is clear which is just like my 512 and I run a Troy BUIS. My 512 cuts the bridge forward of slot #2 in half, the controls are reachable but it is close. I hope that made sense, maybe this pic of my 512 will help.

Plenty of room (only need one slot).

We put that on there for the LEO and military so they are aware that the 'civilian' version of the sight they are purchasing is still rugged and built tough enough for the abuse that they put it through. It is the opposite of the impression that most get. Hey, but if it makes you feel 'tacti-cool' than that's just an added bonus.

Is there a coupon or promo code for that? :p

BTW, nice L3 product... I'm almost swayed away from my ACOG and Aimpoint...

The mount they're using looks very similar to the old #15 Trijicon reflex mount that I have. A little different cross bar but still same concept. It's always locked up pretty solid.

Saw one at the gun show this past weekend.

It startled my friend, as he was looking for a 512 and saw the price tag on the 553. He bought a 512, but the 553 does have some nice attributes.
