I have a Glock 17 which I recently updated with a more aggressive stippling pattern:
25016
25017

I want to know if anyone knows how to make the border for the stippling like that of Boresight Solutions?

Any help would be welcome. Thanks!

I've done work on almost all of my Glocks and they are now Boresight/Colbore clones. I tape off the line I want with blue painter's tape. Then I'll either stipple right up to the edge of the tape or sometimes I use the chisel tip and engrave a line at the edge of the tape that acts as a border for the stippling. Once you apply the blue tape you can cut corners or curves into it with a sharp x-acto knife. Best of luck!

I have used this for the borders on stippling, but to make it most effective you'll need a reference straight edge to run the file on for the first few strokes until you get the groove started.

I've been holding off on stippling until I could figure out how to do proper borders. Any chance you could post some pictures of your work?

Erg. Haven't posted pics before, but I could try. I've also had good luck burning a line as I run the soldering iron up against a metal ruler. It provides very straight lines and gives a professional look. The important thing is, don't be scared to try it. You can erase almost all stippling as long as you don't melt through the damn frame and create a big gaping hole. If I'm dissatisfied with my work I either stipple over it or sand it off and go at it again. Practice on your plastic Glock Tupperware box or a cheap Walmart gun case until you get the lines, texturing and corners you like.

I wish I knew Ben's secret at Boresight but I don't and if I had his secret recipe of herbs and spices for stippling perfection I'd keep it safe too. If you have ever seen fellow M4C member Rattlehead's work his is fantastic as well.

Mine is no where near as good but I also use masking tape with 3 layers. If I want the corners rounded I do not lay down the tape and cut out corners with a razor. I will place the tape on either side of the area to be stippled. Then where those two points intersect I place small precut rounded pieces of tape directly between the point where the two sides intersect.

Three layers of tape are used because I will actually place about 1/4 of the tip of the soldering gun into the tape while stippling. This doesn't penetrate the tape (PRACTICE with PMAGS FIRST) but melts the plastic along the edges into a very nice uniform border.

A pic of a guy's SD I recently did:

I am definitely following this. Which soldering iron do you guys prefer?...what kind of tips do you recommend to have?...Any good websites that you guys could reference for people wanting to learn?

I used a $10 wood burner from Wal-Mart. Worked fine. I recently posted a thread where I did several grip modifications and stippled my Glock 34 if you want to reference that. It's really not too complicated. Just take your time, lay a border with masking tape if you want. Make the stippling RANDOM. Do not try to line up the dots in rows or it will come out looking funny. Other than that, use whatever tip you like. A good place to practice is on the handgun case your gun came in. I practiced on my Glock case.

I have a RTF model glock. Was wanting to do straight lines on my front strap and trigger guard. Figured I could draw a grid to insure I did straight lines.

I've recently finished my Glock mods after all the helpful insights from you guys. I was not able to get it exactly like that of Boresight's border but it came out more defined and I'm satisfied with it. I decided to tape the borders and stipple a bit deeper. Here's how it went:

25149

Thanks again!
