Need a recommendation for a mag vest. Im thinking of taking a local carbine class. I have all the requirement except the vest. Looking for somethng fairly inexpensive, Ill probably only use it for the class and recreational purposes.

If you're only using it for one or two classes and having fun, then you can use this.

Condor Recon chest rig (http://www.amazon.com/Condor-MCR5-001-P-Recon-Chest-Rig/dp/B008PO02AQ)

But the fact that you're taking a class implies you're learning to use your rifle. Which means you anticipate possibly using that rifle in a defensive role. Which means that you need quality gear. I recommend buying a solid, quality chest rig from the likes of Haley Strategic, HSGI, First Spear, PIG, or any of the others once and be done with it. Check out skdtac.com and look at their stuff, it's expensive but worth it.

I know you said a vest but do you mean a chest rig? If so, ATS makes some. They have one that holds 4 m4 mags and has molle so you could add pouches as you like. I think it's about $120 on their site. They also have a slick version so you could totally customize it. Also, keep an eye on the equipment exchange.

Spend a little extra and get something that is not going to fall apart during the course. For a simple chest rig I would go with the Blue Force Gear 10 Speed M4 Chest Rig. It is light weight, compact, and will last a long time. It also has PALS slots on the side so that if you figure out that you want some more pouches later you can add some pouches (IFAK, GP pouch, pistol mags, admin pouch, etc). It is also what I recommend for civilians as it can be worn under some loose clothes making it one of the most low viz rigs out there.

I'm no expert and haven't been in harms way because of medical reasons but from what I've seen I like the looks of these. I haven't heard anything bad. I like that they're low profile, no frills, and have flaps covering the mags. I also like the closure system on the pouches. I'm going to order the minuteman after I move. Right now the wait time is about 5 months. It's a small company with only two guys right now.

I recommend chest rigs from Mayflower, uw gear, or SKD/Eagle. really well thought out gear. The split vest from mayflower is one of my favorites.
