Other than "terrible", does anyone know the accuracy of 45 grain hollow points out of a 14.5", 1/7 twist barrel?

Not 45 grain, but I bought a bunch of Federal 50 grn. HP at a decent price and run it in my 14.5 Noveske n4 1/7. and it's not terrible by any means. I use it for off hand practice and a little bench work. It groups respectively at 100 yards with only an Aimpoint.

I shot a few thousand 45gr Winchester Whitebox Valuepak ammo from Wally World out of my 1/7 barrels and I found them to pretty darn accurate.

Torso shots out to 300 yards was not difficult if you did your part. Mind you these are not match loaded ammo.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who has had good luck with the 45gr Winchester Whitebox ammo as I've seen a few other post similar results at TOS.

Dunno about in a 14.5 and the somewhat reduced velocities, but using 45's in a 1/7 sometimes leads to "no holes in the paper and a funny puff of dust halfway to the target"..... as the thin-skinned bullet disintegrates in mid-air from the centrifugal force.

i've shot the WWB 45gr JHP from several 1/7 twist barrels, both 14.5" and 16", and neither of them caused the bullets to "vaporize"...

Why would the accuracy be terrible?

I've never heard of any problems with shooting 45 grains in a 1/7 twist.

The WW white box ammo is pretty good plimking ammo. I shot some last week with a 16" 1/7 Colt barrel, always made a hole in the target and grouped just fine considering it was offhand with irons and an Aimpoint.

I've always heard that the little 45 grainers give sub-broadside of a barn at 100 yrds from the 1/7 barrels. I've never shot anything smaller than a 55 grn out of my 1/7 barrel.

I have shot the Rem UMC 45 grn HP's for years out of my Mini-14's 1/10 twist at potguts (a fat mountain prarie dog type animal) and rock chucks for years with devestating (explosive) results.

You have not lived until you have hit a 5 lb rodent with a 3,400 fps projectile....(slower out a 14.5)....

I guess I will have to pack the 6921 on my next hike and see how it works. Thanks for the responses.

Yup. Lots of jacket/core separations and similar failure, evidenced by unusual presentations in the intended target and that of the neighbor.

Speaking of Rem UMC, said issues occurred with remarkable consistency in a batch fired from 1/7s.

Try the BHA 36gr "Varmint Grenade."
