I seem to want to use the magazine of my 6920 as a handle while in a prone position. Can this be done?

You can, but it doesn't help more than a proper grip will.

Just use the mag as a monopod.

Yeah, I will just try different things. I may also buy a forend.

This... rest the mag on the ground and use your support hand to support the weapon using the handguard (the words mesh together too nicely not to pay attention to them). Holding it low on the magazine will make the rifle a little more top heavy, and it will be substantially more difficult to control griping the magazine... its improper form and it would be a bad idea to get into the habit of doing it.

Don't you have one already? I'm confused......

I'm terribly confused... did your 6920 not come with a handguard (which i assume is what you mean by forend). I guess you never know what colt is leaving off their rifles these days... Just saw a 6920 which was had the pony+"Colt" and the S/N but was missing the "M4 CARBINE" and "CAL. 5.56MM"

Buying a 10 dollar hasty webbing sling should help you put your hand back on the handguard

I'm guessing he meant to say "foregrip" as opposed to fore end.

No doubt.
