Why are lowers maked Multi or 5.56MM ?

Why would it hurt to have a lower marked 5.56MM and shoot other Calibers with it?

It wouldn't, hence the Multi marking. Most Ar manufacturers make predominately 5.56 rifles so their lowers are marked as such.

Give the poor fella a break. If folks really understood caliber markings, lowers wouldn't have caliber markings at all
