View Full Version : Ruger Gunsmiths - Who?
So which gunsmiths work on Rugers? I have a pair of GP100's in need of bobbed n DAO'd hammers.
I know of:
Gemini Customs - Frankfort, Kentucky
Cylinder & Slide - Fremont, Nebraska
I'd prefer somebody Houston local. Who else is out there?
Mark at Gemini Customs - Frankfort, Kentucky is my good friend and the best at what you are looking for.

Anyone have any luck with Nelson Ford in Phoenix?
Ruger factory will convert SP101/GP100 to DAO for LEO - at least they did for me. If you talk nice to them they may do it for former LEO. I would try them first. The conversion is actually trivial if you understand how the Ruger action works but it is not a "drop in". IME Ruger is very friendly to LEO.
Here's a second for Gemini. Good product, good turnaround. I'd go to him again.

I had Gemini tune up my SP101. Very nice work and good people to deal with. So I guess that's a third. :)
Teddy Jacobsen in Sugarland. Briley in Houston has a pistol smith section in addition to its world famous shotgun gunsmithing endeavor.

David Clements in Virginia, but I'm not sure what his wait time is, or if he is taking work presently.

Try Karl Sokol. He brought my beat-up Model 29-2 back to life. http://chestnutmountainsports.com/aboutcms.htm
Hamilton Bowen is the absolute top of the heap for any revolver work and would be my first choice if time and money were no object. http://www.bowenclassicarms.com/ He's not cheap, but having him work on your revolvers actually increases their value.

I can only comment on the Hamilton Bowen work, since I recently got to handle a Bowen Classic Arms revolver, a Redhawk that had been converted to .500 Linebaugh, excellent work and the action was so good I could hardly believe it.
