Does anybody have a good load for using Ram Tac and SS109 62 grain bullets. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've used 25 grains with SUB MOA accuracy at 100 yards. Expected fps is 2900-3000 fps. OAL: 2.250"

I haven't dialed a TAC load for ss109 in either. I think I tried 23.5 grains, and it wasn't very thrilling. I didn't put it on paper or chrono it, but it felt like it might have been too mild. One of these days I'll try to kick it up to 24.0 and see how that runs.

I found an great deal on 62 grn SS109 bullet and planning on loading about 300 of them. I have seen everything from 23.0 grn of powder to 26.0 grns of powder. Thanks for the info. Everyone has been such a great help since I started reloading. Thanks

Start low. 26 grains sounds too hot to me.

25.8 was a listed max load for a 60 grain bullet. I loaded some 60 gr Nosler Ballistic tips and at 90 degrees it was too hot, it worked up fine in 50 degree weather but I will back off a bit.

I do load 24 grains with 77 gr SMK with excellent results, velocity and accuracy.

edit; I thought I had posted this here before but this is what I got using a 17" Kreiger RECCE upper.

as stated temp was about 90 degrees and this is a match chamber, a standard 5.56 chamber might be different.

24 gr TAC would still seem a bit on the low side. The Sierra manual has that load coming in at 2800 fps out of a 20" barrel, with 25.5 gr being their max for a 63 gr bullet. If you want a M855/SS109 clone, you're probably going to be working outside of SAAMI max pressure and load data. Work your way up carefully and look for signs of high pressure.

I am going to start with 24.0 and work my way up to 25.0 and see where what is the best load.

I went to Sportmans Warehouse today to get a complete guide to Reloading
.223 and they were completely sold out. There must be a high demand for the .223 round.

Sub MOA with SS109 projectiles? That's incredible!
Those bullets are not known to be very accurate.

I exactly duplicated the M262 load with TAC, but it is very hot and I changed to N540.

It was 26 grains of TAC driven by a Magnum Primer with the Nosler cannelured 77 grain bullet. This came out at over 2750 fps from a 16 inch barrel. I didn't have a problem with it but some of the primers were flattened.

To dup the M262 using availible powder I use the much more expensive N540 and Varget.

That said I use more TAC than any other powder because there is no reason to load this hot for plinking, triggertime, drills, and even shtf with 62 grain bullets.

For TAC I suggest 25 grains with a normal primer driving 62 grain bullets. That will more than approximate M855 and be easy on your gun. I load 2 different 62 grainer bullets, pull down M855 and Golden West 62 grain with cannelure.

I agree with you. I just bought another 100 62gn SS109 yesterday and I will load them with Ram Tac. I went to the range and tested the load at 25 meters with my M4 and the results were amazing. I am going this wee to try this load at 50 yards and see what happens. I like this combination for SHTF load.

TAC makes SS109s accurate?

This powder is magic! :p
