Got a chance to get my rifles out after switching scopes surround. I have the VX2 2-7 on the compact featherweight 20" barrel 7mm-08 and a Vortex Viper 2.5-10 on my 24" sporter 30-06. Both M70 made at FN in SC.

This is the 30-06 in McMillan Hunter stock.

Grouping is consistent when moving the group right with standard Federal 140 gr 7mm-08.

7mm-08 is the left target. Distance is 100 yards

I stopped with the adjustments here and will see what she does with follow up range sessions. I did much better than last year. My form is more consistent.

Sent 2 rounds down to the 200 yard plates. Hit this on second shot.

The 30-06 is in a McMillan stock and bedded. It was super consistent. I think the scope has some slight parallax issues. Not sure I want to keep it. May invest in a VX3 3.5-10 power for this rifle.

Still the grouping is good to me. Best I can get with a couple of blankets and a bean bag sock for the rear.

I'll see where she hits next range session and go from there. I bumped it over one click to the right after this group.

The first round sent down at 200 yards sent this plate crashing to the dirt.

All in all my consistency is much better.
The 30-06 likes the 150 grains so I'll be grabbing some more ammo for both rifles.

And I shall expect pictures of the buck you shoot this fall, and your new custom knife you made to skin it. ;)

Agreed. A friend has the same Model 7 in 7mm-08 that Brian has, and she loves it. Perfect "walking rifle" to take deer with.

I was thinking of rebarreling the .308 compact featherweight to .243 for my daughter. It might be better to just buy one though considering labor cost.

Bgoode, the Leupold VX6 2-12 is just begging for a home on that 06--

That or the vx2 3-5-10!

Did you mean VX3? I hadn't seen a VX2 in 3.5-10x.

OP: you'll find pretty much all scopes that don't have adjustable parallax will have an issue at one range or another. Some scopes are set at 50 yards for rimfire, some CF scopes are set at 75, some 100, and some 150. If your parallax is off, its off. To be on at 200, that means you're off at 75, 100, 150, etc. Only way around it is to go with adjustable parallax. Another option is to just make sure you have a consistent eye position and turn your power down to some degree. If you have a 10x scope, turn it down to 5x and the parallax error won't seem as bad.

Oops. iphone keyboard error. Yeah I meant the VX3.
