The 5R is an impressive rifle. Forgive my ignorance, what's the difference on the Milspec? And how does one know which they have. Spent some time in a friends 5R and it has me thinking

I have had a 5R since last year,,,really like the rifle,,,its in 308,,they make a 223 & 300 Win Mag also. The 5R is the rifling,,,I'm pretty sure that's the only difference. There are many different Remmys out there,,same stock,,same trigger,,,BBL lengths,,etc. The 5R is a different, only in the way its rifled,,if I'm wrong someone will be along in a bit to help out !! :D One thing I will say is they are very,,very consistent & clean up very easy also,,,when I finally decide to clean it,,,LOL !!

I did near the same thing with a personally built Noveske Afghan shooting hand loaded 77 gr. SMKs.

Don't go shooting while hung over...dehydration jitters.

Pappabear has all three caliber 5Rs.

Friedcheese! Get that gun skim bedded. It's obviously worth having it done. When Pappabear's went for bedding the Riflesmith showed him where the action was just banging around in the stock. Holes were starting to egg out.

If you have a gun that's shooting that well with that shit trigger, put a few buck into it!!

How's the .223?
I often think of your posts when considering Remington

I've never even heard the term Mil Spec associated with the 5Rs.

I have heard it around and now this thread and the OP got me wondering if they were all "Mil spec" or if there are two different flavors to choose from in terms of 5r barreled 700s

Not all Rems are 5R,,,it is a specific rifle & type of rifling,,not all are the same. I have heard the Mil-Spec associated with the 5R rifle,,I think it is the type of rifling on there Sniper rifles,,,,,M24,,,,etc,,,again I'm not 100% sure,,,but I think so !! Again,,,there are many Remmys that are all the same,,,,its only the Rifling,,,,everything else is very,,very similar. They do make a 20 inch BBL with a threaded muzzle along with a 22 inch & a 24 I think.

I know what 5R rifling is. You are missing my question. Are there 2 different variants of SS 5R 700s, one being denoted as "mil-spec" and the other not?

Like how some night force optics are "mil-spec" and some are not.
I am not sure if I am speaking another language here...

Sorry dude,,LOL ! :) Guess I wasn't missing the question,,just miss interpreting it,,;),no big deal !!! I am pretty sure there are not different variations of the 5R other than BBL Length & Caliber. :)

It was my impression that the 5R milspecs were, at one time anyway, made with rejected M24 barrels.
