Now I'm FINALLY interested.. What's LE price on these guys?
I like it but see no reason to replace my current shield. I just simply don't engage the TS.

Agreed, too bad they didn't come out with this from the start... My current shield is a .40, this looks like an excuse to buy a 9mm Shield. :D

I agree with you agreeing. I think the TS is a nice feature, but yeah, should have had two models from the start. I do love my 9mm shield though.

I installed Apex hard sears in both of my Shield 9mm's. I had to remove the safety lever during the process. I thought about leaving the safety off, but figured it was nice to have the option. I use the safety occasionally as a storage safety.
I'm surprised it took so long for S&W to offer the option of a Shield w/o the safety lever. Even if all the did was to leave the safety lever off of the gun and plug the hole in the frame.
I won't sell off my current Shields for the safety less version. But I would have most likely bought this the first time around had it been an option.
Yup. I'm in.
Thanks for the heads up, Grant!
Grant,
Any word on whether there will be a model with no TS but with a magazine safety? Not really my ideal, but our range cadre want the mag safety before approving the Shield.

Not that I am aware of.

I guess the the question becomes.. Do I wait until the Glock 43 comes out.........
I've been wanting a second Shield as a spare, this is what I've been waiting for!
Yay, time to buy a TS model used for cheap and have a second one! That or buy one of these and just trade.

I was hoping to get a shield very soon, this is excellent news
Grant,
Any chance they'll release the frame plugs as well?

Not that I have heard and don't think they will. The reason is because the TS helps retain the pin. So once you remove the TS, you can run into some issues.

Why is the omission of the thumb safety so desirable? I only own Glocks so no experience with thumb safety.

The Shield thumb safety was so small that it could be difficult to actually use it. An absence of the safety eliminates the possibility of missing the safety under stress.

Grant-Any chance we can pre-order through you?

It is for me as well, but I am VERY hesitant to entrust any form of eagerness in the Glock gears turning at an acceptable rate.

Sure. Send us an e-mail.

Thanks for the response. I seem to remember you saying that there were no issues removing the TS. Specifically as to how it interacts with the pin. Has that changed?

You can easily enough disable the TS. all you have to do is pull it off and grind down the blocking tab and put it back on. it'll flip up and down and make absolutely zero difference.

I'm well aware of the ability to disable the TS. I'm asking Grant why he has changed his position on complete TS removal.

The Shield, IME, would benefit from having no safety (like the new models, or a plug from a reputable source that does the same without the side effects that Grant mentioned), or a slightly more extended safety that's a little easier to work and harder to miss. It's kinda in a sweet spot.

I didn't think there would be, but S&W advises that the pin can walk (which is why the new shield without the TS have an entirely new frame).

Yup. Too bad for S&W I already bought a Walther PPS.
I want to believe this so much, but I find it odd that there's still not a peep about this on smith and wessons site..

Yay!
Still odd though.. Nothing on their Facebook either.. This is huge news, you'd think they'd be blasting it, all they're talking about is their CA approved gun..

I'm sure it's in the works but the lack of advertising isn't surprising seeing as how it's just in the 'flyer' stage. Just building a little hype iyam.
Not sure what I'm more excited about with this release. The new model or the influx of TS models on the secondary market that will almost certainly hit the 300 or slightly sub-300 mark. Decisions, decisions.
Grant… sent my pre-order via email. Thanks!
Grant - do you know if they're doing LE guns now or just commercial guns?

The flyer I showed is ahead of schedule. Meaning that S&W wasn't going to tell anyone for awhile. Another person on another forum leaked it before I did so I went ahead and uploaded it.

Should be both.

What would be the difference, other than price?

There is none.

Local LE dealer took my pre order this morning, said I was the first to order! :)
I know what I'll be getting for my birthday then :D

I assume they fixed all the issues since the recall and didnt introduce any new ones. Anyone have a chance to do some testing on it?

Not sure what you are talking. There was never a recall.

Grant, I think he is referring to this safety alert (trigger issue):

I assumed, but that wasn't a recall and only affected SOME of the Shield's produced in the MONTH of July over a YEAR ago.

I removed my TS based on what Grant said in the past. I epoxied a plug onto the frame to fill the hole. I have had ZERO issues with my shield. I've been carrying this gun this way for over a year.
Finally !! Good news for all !
