Looks like initial reports say they guy was involved in the sovereign citizen movement. His actions tend to jive with that

It's weird that a swift ARMED response was effective. You'd think that a gun ban would have worked better, but what to I know?

WHAT????? Sovereign citizen???? No way...........I guess he couldn't get a Ponzi scheme or false lawsuit to take hold, so he had to go all Jerry Kane on dem peoples.

I sure hope he was shouting the catch phrases that justify such behavior "constitution" "sovereign" "freedom" "liberty" etc, etc,

Forsyth County Sheriff Duane Piper said the shooter, Dennis Marx, walked into Forsyth County Administration Building on East Main Street at about 10:30 a.m. and opened fire. He was armed with an assault rifle, according to authorities. Prior to walking inside, Piper said Marx threw stop sticks on the road so that cars could not approach....

....The gunman's attorney told Channel 2 she was representing him until Thursday, when she withdrew because he was unsatisfied with her negotiating skills. He was due in court on Friday for marijuana and firearms charges. The attorney said the man was a gun buyer and trader.

The attorney said she asked the man to undergo a psychological evaluation, but he refused.

I hope that Deputy Rush makes a full and complete recovery from his wounds, and returns to duty quickly. I'm very glad to read that a swift and effective response shut him down before more people were hurt or killed.

I just wish everyone who called themselves a patriot, sovereign citizen, militia, etc. were actually that instead of the gaggle of ****tards usually involved. I would love to find a group devoted to the "sovereign citizen" with ideas about how to secure rights and freedoms and didn't end up being like something out of The Turner Diaries.

ETA: Here's to a speedy recovery for the deputy who took him on and I hope the SWAT guy have some kind of "nice shot" bonus coming their way.

No shit!

We've still got some cowboys around here, that don't hide behind cover, and radio for a hostage negotiator.

Nothing but respect for the deputy involved.

The nutjob was suing the entire Forsyth County SWAT team prior to this. His case was coming up today. I guess the case is close now.

This courthouse is about 25 miles from my house. We used to own property in Forsyth county until we sold it last summer.

These public shooting incidents seem to come in three's, and this would be #3...

So it seems it was settled out of court. I suspect the shooter had a different outcome in mind.
