Howdy Everybody,

There isn't a CCW section so I'll post this here.

Yesterday I had to requalify the shooting portion for my CCW permit so I went to an indoor range called On Target owned by Jan Morgan. Here's a link:

I used my Glock 35 .40S&W:

Target was placed 7 yards away.

I grabbed a handfull of bullets and loaded 11 rounds into the mag and started blasting away. After the eighth shot she said I could stop "showing off". So I holstered my G35. After a couple of secs I decided to finish off the other three rounds so a did a strong hand only quick draw and fired the last three rounds. They are the three in kind of a triangle group that's a little low.

I'll mail the paperwork today and I'll be good for another 5 years.

Did you bring a throw pillow to the range to rest your gun on?

Looks like ya pulled one dude! Just kidding.

I am curious about some of the live fire quals from some of the states that require it?

16 out of 20 in the yellow? What is the diameter of the target? Do you have to qualify with the weapon you will carry?

My state does not require any live fire or any substantial class. Hell, you can take a class online.

I am not a bad shot, nowhere the level of a lot on this board, actually I thought I was pretty good until I tried some of the drills from this board, quite a humbling experience!

In any case I am still amazed at some of the shooting quals and class requirements for some states and those I have heard for some small town local LE, and basic Mil for that matter. My wife this barley missed Expert level on the Navy pistol course of fire with a sub compact, and she thinks she has a long way to go, and she is correct, but....I guess there is 2 schools of thought, something is better than nothing, and If your gonna do it do it right - or don't do it.

I know some that have taken a class that meets the minimum requirements for my state that basically consisted of; this is a revolver, this is a semi auto, don't point this end at any one, BE Safe. The instructors even said you would not believe some of the shit we have seen.

Texas:

3 yards, 20 rounds
7 yards, 20 rounds
15 yards, 10 rounds

As long as you hit silhouette you score points. If you hit inside eight ring on shots at 3 and 7 yards you have already passed. It's super mickey mouse. Your are no longer required to shoot on renewals, but still are on initials.
