If you like World War II Warbirds like I do and you are in driving distance of Halls TN you should definitely come this year. The show actually takes place on an old WWII B-17 training base. The museum isn't D-Day museum in New Orleans quality but it is worth the $2 (and it is normally free to vets)

There are going to be some new birds this year. A Corsair and a Wildcat as of June 10th!

I can tell you from personal experience that seeing those P51s and the B-17 flying will make the hair on your neck and arms stick up.

Yall let me know if you need directions or recommendations for somewhere to stay or something.

Hope to see you there!

There is nothing as glorious as the sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin engine as it streaks by overhead...

I love the Corsair but the sound of a Mustang or Spitfire is just something that evreyone should experience...

Wish I could attend :(

Tell me about it. That whistling scream is just wonderful. If I can ever catch CAF Dixie at the right time I am due for a 40 min flight in one.

Part of my request when I get in it is going to be I want to feel that whistle in my feet. I don't care how you have to do it, but I want to feel it. :neo:

Most of the P51's and others like the Corsair's with the superchargers are power limited now due to not having much of the high octane leaded aviation fuel around. 100LL is about the best that they can get anymore and it just doesnt run like some good ol 115/145. 115/145 is supposedly only produced in limited quantities and is reserved for the Reno Air Races(somebody said its made in Mexico and trucked in). So all these P51's and what not cant really even get into the boost anymore. I think the last time I heard a P51 and Corsair getting after it in boost was maybe 2004-2005 time frame at OshKosh.

ETA: damn Halls, TN is only about 3 hours drive from St. Louis. Might have to see if my schedule allows me to come down.

Yep and it will be interstate/4 lane 65 all the way down too. The airbase is right off of Hwy 51 which is 4 lane all the way down from I-155 in Dyersburg. You could come down, see it, and be back home before it gets dark. The airshow portion is usually over by 2:30 or so and right at the end they do a "mix up" where they have all the old Warbirds in the air at the same time crossing in front of the viewing area. Not to many places that you will see a B17, P51, P47 and a TBM avenger in the air at the same time crossing back and forth in front of you. It is my favorite part.

They are also very close to the flight viewing area than what I have seen at other air shows. You can hear the whistle/scream of the P51s clear as day when they fly by.

I just went to the Great Tennessee Airshow this passed weekend and I honestly enjoy the Halls show much more. You are closer to the planes. Before and after the show starts you can actually go into the parking area and stand next to the planes.

If it were in St Louis I would definitely drive up to see it personally.

https://www.airshows.aero/OrgProfile/26804Just a quick bump.

It will be this weekend.

Here is a listing of what is going to be there:

Unless there is an unforseen cancellation there is going to be a F4U Corsair there!

Plus a TBM, P51, B17, (possibly a B25). If you have never seen a B17 fly, you should not miss it.

If you need directions or some good recommendations on places to stay, PM me.

It is my favorite show.

Amen to that. You have not lived until you've seen/heard a P-51 Mustang making low passes over an airfield.

Amen to that, but a close second is getting buzzed by F/A18s while riding dirt bikes out on the Chocolate Mountain range. The Marines' way of telling us to get the hell outta their playground - I'm just glad we never had an AV-8 sneak up on us.

OP: been 6 years since we left Dyersburg, really miss the Halls show. Maybe I can convince my wife that I need to visit my folks. Dad's a retired Navy aviator, always up for an air show.
