I am looking for a free float handgaurd that would be comfortable on my wife's 16 in Daniel Defense. She currently has a Magpul Moe on it and it's too big for her tiny little hands. (Plus I want to upgrade) She likes the way longer rails 13-15 look so I am thinking of shaving the fsb and putting one on for her. The only thing I need to mount on it are buis. Anybody running something similar that could point me in the right direction would be much appreciated thanks!

Look at the KMR 13". Not sure if a shaved fsb will fit but lo pro gas blocks can be had for $30+/-. GH

See if you can get a KMR for her to hold.

The Troy Alpha rail with Squid Grips is a good choice.

The 13" KMR is so small and light it is impressive, it is like holding air. I pick up my LE6920 with the Magpul Moe handguard and the difference is amazing. I do have the 14.5" ELW barrel on my BCM upper though, and the Colt is a Gov profile.

I would have to say KMR. There are several ways to go. Pull the FSB and get the barrel dimpled or you can sell the upper and simply get a KMR upper. You could also have someone pull the barrel and get a barrel with low pro block.

Maybe take a look at the ALG Defense, or

Midwest industries also has about the smallest OD out there.

I was actually just looking at the ALG rails. I would
prefer the KMR, but the price on the ALG is really nice. Anybody use the ALG rail? I have used their triggers and was impressed but can't find much on the rail.

Midwest Industries SSK is the thinest diameter if you want keymod, less expensive and just as light as the KMR. otherwise I would go for that ALG m-lok, looks excellent for the price...its a geissele product, you cant go wrong with that!

heres the Midwest Industries and the KMR side by side...

I know they are not free float, but the B5 handguards are really slender

I know I sound like a broken record, but I would try to get my hands on a KMR. I was not an early adopter of KeyMod, but now I don't want anything else. My wife likes it too, especially when compared to quad rails.

My wife and daughters share a DDV7 with a Centurion CMR rail. They love the rail shape, weight, and size. But, they shot about 100 rounds in about 15-20 minutes last week and complained about the heat of the rail. I haven't put on the rail guards that I ordered but will install them this week and it won't be a problem.
I recently got a 10"KMR for an 11.5" build. The rail is very lightweight and I haven't had any heat issues. My wife and kids haven't tried the KMR yet. I like both rails and would recommend either of them. Slight nod to the KMR

I just put that on my 6920. I strongly prefer them over the old-style handguard and even the Magpul MOE. My only issue now is trying to figure out a light mount.

Ive used the EMR and its an extremely nice rail for the price. Mrs Geissele puts out a good product thats for sure. My only complaint with it is when you're in between shim sets and you kind of have to troubleshoot and see which one works better, but hey for the price and the outstanding quality I'd buy it again.

The KMR really is a step into the future of rail systems though. It is so incredibly light and easy to install, Its hard to recommend anything else. I'd say if you have the dough spring for the KMR, if not you won't regret the EMR.

Ended up ordering an 13" KMR from BCM and a 13" ALG M-Lok. Whichever one my wife likes the least will go on my next build.

My wife decided she liked the feel of the ALG rail over the KMR. She liked that it was more rounded. I installed both rails and have to say the ALG was so easy to put on. I absolutely love the way they engineered the tool/barrel nut to make it easy to torque down. That's being said I think on my one rifle the BCM would be the one I choose. I really like to look and feel of the KMR. Both rails seem to be extremely easy to mount anything on and feel to be top quality. Thanks again for the suggestions. I am fairly new to the AR platform and this site and love that M4carbine had a wealth of knowledge I can pull up so easily.

Now if I can only figure out how to post pictures!

...Now if I can only figure out how to post pictures!

Posting photos is easy. Just open a Photobucket account, upload the photos then copy and paste the link to the photos using the IMG in front of the link and /IMG at the end. Put the IMG & /img inside the brackets- []. The code should end up looking similar to this (eliminate the *

[*IMG]http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n289/SgtSongDog/Lil%20Wolf%20Pup/WolfCub009_zps9458ded5.jpg[/IMG]

Then your photo will appear in the post. Here is the same code but with the * removed
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n289/SgtSongDog/Lil%20Wolf%20Pup/WolfCub009_zps9458ded5.jpg

To get the code, click on the photo in your photobucket so it's the only photo you see. There will be a menu that says "Email & IM", "Direct", "HTML" and so on. Click on "Direct". It should copy the code. Then open the box that lets you write your post. Click on the Insert Image Icon. Select "From URL" and deselect "Retrieve remote file and reference locally". Paste the code copied from photobucket in the text box and click OK. Your photo will be posted

My wife is pretty short with small hands and really likes her KMR10 handguard :) on a 14.5...with a Surefire light in the 12 O'clock and using a toggle switch on the light body
the 13 is a tad too long for her reach...

Midwest Industries Gen 2 is the thin answer, I love mine as it is rock solid and goes over the Seekins adjustable gas block.

A very wise man here! I see that I the end she liked the ALG M-LOK rail better which is a win - win. She gets the rail she likes better and you get a new KMR...

Like I said...A very wise man.

Haha now i am going to order the rest of the build around the KMR tomorrow. I figure it is easier to as her for forgiveness than permission.

My wife has small hands as well and we went with the Wilson 13.8" Trim rail on her build. Along with the KAC hand guards which attach to it like a dream. The same guy designed both of these so its not surprising they work well together.
