TN has a new knife law coming into being on 1July14...there will now be NO illegal knives in TN. Autos, blades longer than 3" for carrying, ect..all legal.
I just read where Kansas has a new gun law coming into effect that day...all open carry legal everywhere not posted, concealed too.
Who/where else has new laws coming into effect...either pro or con self defense related?
And..why do laws wait until July to be legal,or why aren't they immediately effective when signed?
Always wondered this.

Always wondered this.
1. Government, business, individuals, and other entities that are affected need time to get into compliance, so there's often a grace period so to speak, between signing and effect.
2. July 1 coincides with a new fiscal period, and since many laws have some sort of cost associated with them (enforcement, tax, services, etc.) it makes sense to enact a new law when a new budget comes around. This obviously begs the question of why the fiscal year doesn't coincide with the calendar year, but whatever.

July 1st is the beginning of the fiscal year for many states and the effective date for some laws is tied to new funding.

In Louisiana valid CCW holders can bypass the NICS background check. The 4473 is still required.

CCW holders will now be legal to carry in establishments that serve alcohol but make most of their money from food sales.

These laws go into effect August 1st.
