View Full Version : HECKLER & KOCH VP9 HANDGUN DETAILED PHOTO TOUR

I picked up my HK VP9 on Friday and here is a collection of close up pics of the handgun from various angles, external and internal shots.

Be aware that these are relatively high-resolution extreme close ups, showing details that the human eye would never notice, plus even though I had wiped it down once, the handgun comes from the German factory slathered in a packing/shipping oil.

Awesome piece!
Is there some kind of tool included to knock out the roll pin for changing back strap and side panels?

ptmccain
07-19-14, 08:20
Thanks.

No, it does not come with a tool.

The manual indicates:

"Use a 2.8 mm pin punch, remove the pin (clamping sleeve) holding the backstrap in position."

I swapped my side panels and backstrap without any problems just now using my cheapo standard English system pin set.

Love the way I can customize the grip for my super-size hands. The largest panels and backstrap feel great for me.

The largest backstrap gives me a perfect "palm swell" for my hand.

I just picked up two VP9's yesterday. If you don't mind, here are a few pics I took showing it with a my G19 and CZ P-07 pistols to show the size comparison.

Nice pics, my very first thought when I picked it up was, a bit larger than the Walther PPQ and G19 and much better ergonomics, even before I put on the side panels and the backstrap for large hands.

ptmccain,

Is there any way to remove the right side slide release mechanism and essentially change it from "ambi" to traditional?

ptmccain
07-19-14, 15:30
I don't know. And I don't know why you would want to bother doing that anyway, it does not interfere with any functionality when shooting it right handed.

You should post this at HKPro, I'm sure detailed photos would be welcome over there too.

Interesting.

Note the circles at the back top edge of the grip frame. At first I thought it was a large ejector pin mark but there is one on the other side as well. There shouldn't be ejector pins on BOTH sides of mold. So my bet is that they are removable pin cores. They can pop them out and replace them with pin cores and create holes in the frame (like they do for the other holes).

That thought would be cemented if they are raised versus being recessed. They look raised in the pictures. Ejector pin marks are usually recessed because the pin hits it when the part isn't fully cooled.

I would be willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that they are planning on releasing an ambi safety version in the future and they have already incorporated the feature needed to add it into the mold. I can't think of any other reason to have a cross pin hole there.

Good engineering work!:D

That recoil spring assembly looks a lot like the PPQs. Wonder if they're interchangeable ?

thanks for posting. Can we now assume there is no ILS (internal locking system) in the VP9. I couldn't get a straight answer on the other thread.

LOVE the pics in this thread...MANY thanks. As one with only a little experience/knowledge on HK...what is the antler like marking
on the slide? Has what looks to be a cross at the base? Any meaning behind that?

This info is from HKPRO....

The symbol to the right of the date code is a stag horn. It is the symbol of a particular proof house, located in Ulm, Germany. German firearms are sent to proof houses before sale, for inspection and quality control. This is much like a 'UL' listing for American small appliances. There are other proof houses, for example, in Kiel and Hannover, Germany, but HK uses the Ulm proof house exclusively.

Thanks for posting this. Interesting. I'll admit, i'm pretty pleased with my 4th gen glocks, but this has me intrigued. Not necessarily to replace, but to supplement.

I find it interesting some manufacturers are moving toward captured dual recoil spring setups and HK is moving AWAY from them. But, I'm a nerd and would find that interesting.

Good pics.

Moderators, this thread, along with the 40 page+ thread on the VP9 needs to be linked in a folder just for HK pistols if possible. Very valuable info.
