Gents, I have enough parts laying around that I think I will build a 300 BLK upper. I would really like a URX rail but have enough parts... ie upper receiver, bolt carrier etc, that I cant justify buying the AAC 9" barreled upper and don't feel like shelling out an extra $100 plus for a 9" AAC barrel when there are plenty of barrels out there for less of the 8.5 variety.

Does anyone have any experience with a URX III 8" rail on a 8.5" barrel?

My goal is the shoot this with subs and suppressed and will be using an AAC SDN6. I realize that this setup will work without a can as the flash hider/mb will fit under the rail but the only reason I want this build is to shoot suppressed. Looking at the AAC upper which is a 9" barrel it is really cutting it close. I'm trying at all costs not to do something like this http://www.store.silencerco.com/collections/rimfire/products/1-2x28-rifle-thread-spacer which I have used to shoot 22 conversions out of my ARs using pistol cans since the threads in the piston are not deep enough to engage the barrel shoulder although with no ill effect so far.

Thanks for your help in advance guys.

I have one with a 10.5" carbine gassed barrel - not exactly helpful, but the URX covers all but the last quarter inch of a low profile gas block on a carbine gas setup.

well I ended up going with a noveske nsr 7 with rainier arms 8.5 barrel...

WORD OF CAUTION

as I found out most 300 blk barrels use 5/8-24 threading... Im so used to building ARs in 556 that I totally forgot about that fact... I ended up buying a 1/2x28 AAC muzzle brake but then realized it was for 556 so I went back and bought another one with 1/2x28 threading for 30 cal... I go to mount it up and what do I find out????? it uses 5/8-24 threading (I guess it helps to read the specs of stuff before you buy). Now Im stuck using my TBAC 30p1 direct threaded to my barrel until my new AAC brake arrives. I still banging my head against the wall what a waste of 200 bucks.... I guess ill just build two more 556 AR uppers now.
