View Full Version : Best Ear Pro for Concerts?

I will be going to a concert in a few weeks that I expect to be quite loud. After a combined 20 years in mil/LE, I'm looking to save what I have as much as I can. I found through google a couple companies who sell earplugs that are allegedly designed for concerts. Have ear plugs changed that much in the last 20 years? Or should I just throw in my stylish orange triple flange the DoD issued me in 1990?

Considering these two brands, but would love to hear more options/suggestions. I thought about the SF EP series, but they are not so comfortable to me with the extra piece that holds it in place.

I really like these...as far as comfort's concerned, my kids even kept them for the duration of an air show. Haven't noticed any muddying of music while wearing these...

Moving up from a small tube amp to a 50 watt Marshall plexi soon, and will be wearing these pretty much all the time. Master volume? Pfft - who needs it??? :D

I've always just used 33 db foam plugs from Wal-mart. I once tried the swimming style plugs, and they were more comfortable. I think it's really a personal preference.

I've used the SF and like you said they were not that comfortable.

Foam ones always are very comfortable for me

The orange ones work a little too good unless you back them out a bit. I like a softer foam. Concerts are so much more enjoyable with light plugs in.

Also... those rubber baffle style plugs can be inserted to achieve variable amounts of protection. I run those with ARs and silencers to knock down the port snap a little without totally defeating the purpose of the silencer.

Etymotics. They have several passive choices and are designed for music specifically

Might be a Neanderthal approach but I think anything 29 or more reduction will do ya. I've made a bit of an informal study of this and it also depends where in the hall you are-- I've found at most venues if you want to be right up front, like belly to the stage, a lot of the dB's are going right over you. Works out well when you want to be up close where the action is but not go deaf.

I never feel ashamed of having plugs but if a guy did he could probably rig something ahead of time that was less conspicuous. Sometimes I see people bringing their kids and to my relief more often than not they have brought some kind of hearing protection for them. it's nice to not be deaf.
