View Full Version : Which mount?

I've always run Larue mounts in the past, however I see a lot of folks run Boboro mounts on their rifles. Larue has always worked for me, however I'm just curious if I should try something different to mount up this 1-4 I have lying around. Is there a noticeable difference between the two mounting systems?

I've owned both, and now only own Bobro. Not that there's anything wrong with LaRue, but I find Bobro superior for multiple reasons. First of all, it requires zero adjustment. It will adapt to any rail with no tools. Second, the clamping surface is bigger. Probably doesn't matter. Third, and this one means nothing to me, but people talk about it is that the LaRue will mark your gun....BFD. I just like the Bobro more... My only gripe is the lever mechanism sticks out too far.

You can't go wrong either way. If you want to get spendy, check out GDI. I have one... It's built like a shit brick house (brick shit house.)

I have owned a ton of Larue lever mounts and used them on everything from Surefires to ACOGs to issued nightvision scopes.

I like that the levers lock into position and that they are light and tend to retain zero well, but Bobro and others (ADM, for example) have much better mounts. Their clamping surface is much larger than Larue's because Larues mount to the rail by slicing underneath the it whereas the others physically clamp the rail. I have noticed that after time (many thousands of rounds), Larue lever mounts require tightening of the adjuster nut. To some, that's a non issue. I'd rather not deal with the hassle. I'm not rushing to sell off all of my Larue mounts, but I won't be buying anymore.

If you've already got a Larue mount for your 1-4, use it and it will work. I'd look elsewhere if you're buying a new one, however.

I use ADM and Larue when they come with a new or used red dot, but choose Bobro when feasible. I only use Bobro for my 1-4s and longer range scope. There are two styles that differ AFAIK only in rings screwing together from top or bottom. I prefer top though bottom look cleaner. I had to dismount a base to fit Allen wrench in one bottom screw. And being visible I may notice if one on top has worked loose.

Cool deal. This time I may try Bobro. Do you happen to recall the part number for the one that the screws go from top to bottom?

I only found one place showing top screws. Many with smooth top. Both have the same product number so I'm thinking tops are no longer made. It's such a minor hassle and the smooth looks better. Check lots of photos to see if you prefer straight, slightly forward or extended. I like extended.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to check a couple of stores here in Jacksonville tomorrow and I'll order if I can't find it. I appreciate the help!

Also I was curious as to if you run BUIS on your rifles? I run Troy sights and want to be sure these will allow the 1-4 vortex to clear without issues.

Check with Rainier arms on the Bobro mounts with top accessible screws. I picked up two from there a few months back.

Guess I assumed any new Bobro mounts have the top screws?
