On friday I plan on hitting the range with my rifle .My plan is to zero my Iron sights, then my Aimpoint. I plan on using a 50 yard zero for both. Is there any directions on how to do this? I checked around but could not find anything to specific The Maryland ar15 forum mentions it but not in any detail. I also would like to know what the bullets path would be out to 200 yards. any help is greatly appreciated. My rifle is a Colt 6920 ,Arms inc #40 BUIS and an Aimpoint comp ML3 in an QRP mount and spacer, the sight is the 4MOA version. MY ammo is going to be mostly 55 grain Winchester, My duty ammunition is Hornady Tap 55 Gr

Basically, just zero a couple inches low at 25 to get on paper, then fine tune at 50. Trajectory should be within 2.5 inches from 0-200 yards roughly. It really doens't get much simpler. Just make sure you use the small aperature to do your work, as you will be more accurate and didn't mention if you had a same plane or not. If you need to shoot from 0-15 yards, make sure you apply appropriate holdover to compensate for the height of the sights relative to the bore.

To zero the Aimpoint, look through the irons, turn it on, move the dot so that it lines up in the center top of the front post. Fold or ignore the rear and front irons, and zero the dot at 25 and then fine tune at 50.

Doesn't get much simpler. I sighted in 2 rifles with Irons and Optics with 30 rounds using 5 shot groups recently. Should work pretty easy for you.

To really do this properly, and to take advantage of the intent of the 50/200 zero...

1) Sight in at about 1" low at 25 yards.
2) Check for zero at 50 yards. Adjust as necessary.
3) Check for zero at 200 yards. Adjust as necessary.
4) Return to 50 to re-check and make note of any offset.
5) Check for offset at other user-defined distances (suggest knowing where your rifle prints at 7 yards, 15 yards, 25 yards, 50 yards, 100 yards, 200 yards).

Stinx not a 50 yard zero, but this chart helped me understand the bullet path and the task of mating your optics with the bullet's trajectory. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/bcfive13/100yardzero01.jpg
